The end of Don’t Rain On My Parade just hits. Swagger. Snap. Bravado in full voice. 🌟 An anthem of self‑determination, resilience, and unapologetic ambition. When soloist @catrinmedwards is this good, everyone in the @newsinfonia band can go for it. Nobody’s holding back. Love it. 🎶✨ #dontrainonmyparade #funnygirl #broadway #wrexham#RobGuyConductor

As I come to the end of my second season with the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, I’ve been reflecting on just how special this journey has been. 💙 It all began in 2024 with a reunion concert, where I first met our Honorary Patron, Sir Simon Rattle. A few days later, Liverpool Philharmonic called to ask if I’d consider becoming Principal Conductor. I didn’t hesitate for a second. In a former life as a viola player, I was lucky to perform with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra through the RLPO/RNCM Professional Experience Scheme. Those concerts still feel vivid — Nielsen 4 and Brahms’ Violin Concerto with Isabelle Faust will stay with me forever. This season has been full of highlights: working with the brilliant Linton Stephens, giving the world premiere of a new work by Carmel Smickersgill, and performing side‑by‑side with the RLPO. Huge experiences for our young musicians. It’s also LPYO’s 75th anniversary season, making it even more meaningful. Now we head towards a huge finale: 🎶 Sunday 5 July 2026, 2pm 📍 Liverpool Philharmonic Hall Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestras Live Both orchestras come together to celebrate, with LPYO performing Saint‑Saëns’ mighty Organ Symphony and Sibelius’ Andante Festivo. It’s going to be something special. Can you join us? 🎫 Link in bio #liverpoolmusic #liverpoolphilharmonic #youthorchestra #musiclovers #youngmusicians robguyconductor

☀️ This summer I’m heading to Beijing 🇨🇳 I’m honoured to be in residence at the @world_orchestra_festival_ - Beijing, bringing together so many of the things I love: conducting, masterclasses, talks and adjudicating. Working internationally always reminds me that music truly is a universal language. I love stepping into a new culture, sharing music, and learning through collaboration. Hong Kong at the start of the season and Beijing at the end! Very excited for what’s ahead. 🎶✨ #WorldOrchestraFestival #Beijing #Conducting #MusicWithoutBorders #InternationalWork

👋 Who’s your unsung hero at a concert? 🤝 Concert days are powered by teamwork, ☕️ and pure magic 🪄. Backstage, front of house, on stage — it only works because everyone shows up. 🎵 Concert days remind me that it takes an entire team to make music happen — backstage, front of house, and every performer on stage. I love being part of that community. Every person plays a role, and together we create something bigger than any of us. Say "Hi" #robguyconductor #empoweringleadership #community #sayhi #wrexham

I love shaping, presenting and conducting these concerts. ❤️ 🎶 First Experience Concerts at @theatrclwyd with @theatr_clwyd_music are all about young children discovering the power of music — through playing, listening, and sharing the stage. 🤝 What makes them truly special is our side‑by‑side approach: @newsinfonia musicians performing alongside Theatr Clwyd Music Trust associates and advanced young players. When children see their teachers and older young musicians on stage together, something powerful happens. 🌠 Confidence grows. Aspirations shift. Music comes alive 🌠 They think: I could do that. Learning, partnership and inspiration — built at every level. 🎶 Something special is happening across the whole of North Wales. Watch this space! #northwales #youngmusicians #sidebyside #robguyconductor #newsinfonia

It’s hard to believe it’s been 9.5 years since I was appointed to teach conducting and conduct at the @officialuom @uommusic 🎶 I first joined as conductor of @uom_chorus with a vision to build a choral programme that brought together our brilliant choirs, chorus and strengthen our choral conducting offer. That vision was shaped by what @markconductor had already created within the instrumental strand of performance during his time as Artistic Director of @uommusicsociety - MUMS. I benefited hugely from Mark’s teaching and leadership as a student — when something works, it works, and Manchester is proof of that. Today, @tomnewall leads the choral programme with such passion and care for the student experience. What a colleague to have. I feel privileged to serve as Artistic Director of MUMS, the largest student-led music society in the country, and to work with so many talented young musicians each year. One of the great joys of my role is teaching a select group of undergraduate students who major in conducting. Watching them grow — musically, technically, and personally — is extraordinary. And this year has been a particularly proud one. In the last few weeks alone, three former Manchester students — Katherine Stonham, @eleanorjarvismusic and @morley_nat — have been offered places on the prestigious @rncmlive @rncmconducting Northern College of Music Masters in Conducting (led by Mark Heron). At the end of term a few weeks ago, @annecharlotte.music @mosslouis_ and @scottmansonmusic delivered outstanding conducting recitals. I can’t wait to see where their next chapters will take them. They are in the first picture. Look at the smiling faces in previous years, and spot the pandemic conductor photo! Manchester has a proud tradition of conducting training, and I’m grateful to play a part in that alongside Tom — and to continue building on the foundations Mark Heron laid. Here’s to the next generation of conductors, and to the privilege of helping them find their voice. P.S I don't have pics of ALL my ex students after exams. If you are here and see this, please share! #conductor #teaching #empoweringleadership

Dad duties + score study = my new normal. Holiday multitasking at its finest: dad life in one hand 👶, an epic symphony in the other 🎼. I’m getting ready for an upcoming Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Orchestra concert — and trying not to unleash the full‑volume ending at home 🔊🙈 Whenever I’m learning a piece I’ve never played or conducted before, I always start the same way: 1️⃣ Map the structure — a clear road map with stickers marking the chapters of the musical journey. 2️⃣ Build a rehearsal schedule — something with rhythm and pattern so the whole process flows. How do you approach learning something new in your world? #dadmusician #

How do you deal with nerves? 🎤✨ Here’s my little routine whenever the old butterflies turn up: 1.Breathing to centre myself and settle everything down. 2.Hanging out with the musicians (if they let me! 😄) — it helps me feel connected and part of the team. 3.And then… just going for it. Funny enough, I always get more butterflies before a rehearsal than a concert. A concert feels like party time. 🥳 How do you deal with pre‑rehearsal or pre‑concert nerves? Share your tips below — I love hearing different rituals! 🎶 #robguyconductor #dealingwithnerve #rehearsaltoconcert ##showtime Wrexham #positivenerves

Five things musicians look for in their conductor 🎼✨ 1️⃣ Confidence – the kind that puts everyone at ease. 2️⃣ Clarity – gestures that make it easy to play or sing. 3️⃣ Preparation – because nothing inspires trust faster than a conductor who’s truly done the work. 4️⃣ Humility – the podium is part of the team. 5️⃣ Personality – your spark, your humour, your energy… musicians want you, not a carbon copy of anyone else. Musicians — what would you add to the list? Drop your thoughts below 👇 I’d love to hear what makes you feel inspired and supported. #empoweringleadership #musiciansofinstagram #robguyconductor #leadtheway

This is exactly why I love conducting new music — the collaboration and the moments where a composer’s imagination suddenly becomes sound. The World Premiere of "Drip Drip" by @carmelsmickersgill with @liverpoolphil_youthcompany was special. I have conducted seventy world premieres so far, and this is one I’m already excited to return to. There’s nothing like hearing a piece come alive for the very first time. What about you — what’s the first‑time piece that really stayed with you? #NewMusic #WorldPremiere #ConductorLife #ComposerCollaboration #MakingMusic BehindTheBaton
