At our recent Character Development Workshop, our young participants explored the 5 basic emotions – joy, anger, sadness, disgust and fear – not from a textbook, but through their own hands and senses. Every child walked away with something fundamental yet profound: the ability to recognise and put a name to what they feel inside. We brought the party to our residents at Sumang Lane - with free popcorn, ice cream, games and a blessings draw right at the void deck. It was a time of fun for both the young and old residents as they had a go at the games such as nerf guns, ring toss and shooting hoops. None of this would have been possible without our wonderful volunteers who helped to pull the activities together. To add on to her financial strain and challenges she was facing on the family front, her daughter Hilyah was also struggling to adapt in school. Our caseworkers came alongside and empowered Mdm Ayisha with financial support and parenting guidance. Befrienders stepped in to support the family emotionally. Through KIPERKids, our children programme, Hilyah overcame her challenges and bloomed into her true, bubbly self. Quiet and unsure of herself, she grappled self-confidence and fears, causing her to retreat into her own shell. Through our kids programme, she was not only empowered; she discovered confidence and a place of friendship where she feels seen and encouraged. They face gaps in educational support with limited access to learning resources like books and devices, carry additional family and caregiving responsibilities and at times, even inconsistent nutrition at home. These challenges can hinder their ability to learn and fulfil their full potential. With the right support, a child can catch up, grow in confidence and bloom, both in school and in life. 𝙈𝙞𝙙𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙎𝙚𝙣𝙞𝙤𝙧𝙨 What does it mean to empower and care for our seniors? Sometimes, it means helping them access the healthcare they need. We recently welcomed 12 community nurses from Changi General Hospital @cghsg to our Wednesday Breakfast Gathering at our Pasir Ris (Vidacity) outreach point – a fortnightly programme where seniors come together over food, active engagement and companionship. We are thankful to have Dietician Herrick Kong share practical tips on healthy eating for chronic disease management, equipping our seniors with knowledge they can apply in their daily lives. The team also carried out on-site blood pressure and chronic disease screenings, bringing trusted and preventive care right into the community.
