Tastes Like Paper 2025 UK Immigration White Paper printed on edible wafer paper In May 2025, the UK government released a new immigration white paper, sparking frustration and controversy among many migrants. The document proposed a reduction of the Post-Study Work Visa (PSW) from two years to 18 months, and extended the pathway to permanent residency or citizenship from five to ten years for those on work visas. As international students, we already pay at least three to five times more in tuition fees than local students to study in the UK—yet we are made to feel deeply unwelcome. Similar tightening of immigration policies is also taking place in the United States. In this work, I printed the UK immigration white paper onto edible paper. Together with audiences of different nationalities and backgrounds, we chew it up—or throw it into the border. Through this gesture, the phrase “restoring control over the immigration system” is returned to the border itself. Photography:@renelazovy

MSG Food Project Vol.1: Tangram Tasting Behind the scenes Preparation began 30 hours before the workshop, with every fresh ingredient meticulously handled. Producing more than 140 portions of food was an intensive undertaking. As our first collaboration as a trio, the long hours in the kitchen allowed us to find a natural rhythm. What began as a demanding task became a seamless process of mutual support and growing rapport. Exhibition: 'Not Scary, but Soft' curated by @tracollective at @aptstudiosgallery Programme: Curated by @relish_curation in collaboration with @rosibaldassin

MSG Food Project Vol.1: Tangram Tasting 31 January 2026 For this workshop, we reimagined Nicolaas van de Lande’s geometric compositions as a Tangram-inspired edible puzzle. Seven finger-food pieces served on a wooden tray became a canvas for our participants. From birds and mountains to abstract compositions—guests were invited to arrange, create, and taste freely. A look back at Tangram Tasting at APT Gallery earlier this year. Artists Zijing Rie Ye & Kaixiang Zhang reimagine Nicolaas van de Lande’s geometric compositions as a Tangram-inspired edible puzzle: seven finger-food pieces* on a wooden tray become your canvas. We were invited to rearrange them into shapes (birds, mountains, or abstract compositions) This workshop was part of the exhibition 'Not Scary, but Soft' curated by TRA collective at A.P.T Gallery. The public programme is curated by Relish in collaboration with Rosalita Baldassin. Thank you to TRA collective @tracollective for the invitation to hold a public programme at the space, and thank you to @nicolaasvictor for sharing your solo space! An absolutely brilliant and delicious workshop, we look forward to more soon. @rieproduce @z_kai_x @nicolaasvictor @rosibaldassin @tracollective

Resonating with Tiderip’s current exhibition (curated by Relish @relish_curation ), artist Kaixiang Zhang @z_kai_x and Zijing Ye @rieproduce invite you to a special Valentine’s workshop exploring the “quiet yet potent forces of growth.” Just as the exhibition reflects on the roots sustaining life beneath the soil, our workshop turns to nature’s botanicals to create visible, edible beauty. Using natural pigments extracted from the earth—Purple Potato, Beetroot, Pandan, Lavender, Rose, and Jasmine—we will sculpt “Tang Yuan” (traditional Lunar New Year glutinous rice balls) into an Edible Bouquet. This is more than a cooking class; it is a shared ritual. Moving between “indulgence and intimacy,” we invite you to transform raw ingredients into delicate floral forms, creating a universal language of warmth and belonging. Join us to craft a bouquet that blooms from the roots of spring, celebrating the rare alignment of Valentine’s Day and Lunar New Year. Project manager: Shuqing Yang @yangshu7 📅 Date: Feb 14th, 2026 📍 Location: Tiderip Gallery (Amidst the Spring Roots exhibition) ⏰ Time: * Session 1: 13:00 - 14:00 • Session 2: 15:00 - 16:00 ✨ Ingredients and tools provided. No previous experience needed. 🎟 Link in Bio for tickets

My work travelled across the sea to Japan for the CAF Award.
Some materials went missing on the way, and others couldn’t make it through customs — so the piece had to find a new form once it arrived. It was my first time building something entirely from sketches and fragments at hand, imagining its final shape from afar while working with others to fabricate and install it remotely.
Because the work is made of fragile, found materials, and parts that were planned to be fabricated in Japan, I couldn’t test anything in advance. For someone who deeply depending on improvise, for three months I went back and forth between self-doubt and determination. when I finally saw the photos of the installation, I was overwhelmed by how it became to life quite exactly how I pictured.
Huge thanks to the making and installing team in Japan: Mooney, Jin, and Yari for bringing the work to life across distance, and to the staff who patiently supported me throughout. And thanks to everyone who offered advice and comfort when I was feeling lost and anxious. Even though the result didn’t turn out exactly as I imagined, but I’ve learned more from this experience than I expected.
Sharing a few glimpses of the process. as a small trace of this rather long journey. I guess a part of the experience of being an artist includes being rejected by the hierarchy of awarding system over and over again.
