Congrats to the 2026 graduates from the @icp One-Year Certificate Program, one of the most rigorous and prestigious photography programs in the world! It was surreal working in education this year and serving students as opposed to being one. It’s amazing how you can pour yourself into a role in such a way that you bond with people in ways you didn’t notice. I shed several tears of joy today watching a group of human beings realize a dream and join our fraternity of passionate professional storytellers!!! Congrats class of 2026. I’m proud of you all! Welcome to the ICP alumni club!!!@icp_docit @icp_creative_practices @icp_alumni

“You Are What You Dream” (self portrait) 2025 archival inkjet print on Canson Baryta Photographique II Science has proven that most if not all of what we perceive as reality is a construct of our individual and collective minds. To take this idea further I believe that we quite literally become what we dream, what we speak, what we believe. We are creators building our reality with each choice, each word, each action.

My Mom is a full kee!!!!Except from our talk today on the attributes of love with my mother, Vivian. This quote is referencing the way my grandfather placed self love in her heart and gave her advice on how to listen and watch to glean what’s in a man’s heart and how to choose the right one. #attributesoflove #mothersday #wisdom

The second zine I’m releasing today is “I Do Think It’s Not Asking Too Much for You to Love” The zine is full color, 44 pages and includes full color images and text. The zine is also a workbook of sorts with the prompts about the reader’s experiences with the various attributes of love provided so that the reader can then included their own reflections on their experiences with care, affection, recognition, respect, trust, commitment and honest and open communication. It’s available for $25 at @icp Photo Book Fest at the Gateway Projects table, at @creativegroundsdc during my Mother’s Day talk and throughout the run of the show until May 26. Lastly, they are available online. Link in bio.

Saturday, April 25 was the artist talk and roundtable discussion for my solo exhibition “I Do Think It’s Not Asking Too Much for You to Love.” My God what an amazing event. The turnout was amazing. The conversation was rich. The second half of the talk which saw the audience share their reflections on their own experiences with the ingredients of love was amazing! People were vulnerable, people were insightful, and people were engaged.i was worried about the talk going long, but it turned out that no one wanted it to end. My heart is full. My gratitude flows. Instead of a cold intellectual and self absorbed elitist discussion, I was blessed to manifest a true moment of community engagement and group reflection. Thank you to everyone who made the day special. Something new and necessary has begun to take root. Thanks to @jduboisarts @audrajlee_ @creativegroundsdc and all who shared the moment and shed some tears. It was magical.

Remembering my roots, being immersed in my musical influences and being part of the ICP community have all reminded me that I must as always out in the work and to also walk in confidence. I’m bout to talk my shit from today to the grave, but I’ll do it through my work!!! I love me and much as I love life itself. Because, why shouldn’t I?

Still life number 17 This still life work mirrors how I am feeling right now, nourished and sun-kissed; vital and balanced; yet fragile and aware of the ephemeral nature of life itself.

The first image is featured in my current solo exhibition “I do think it’s not asking too much for you to love” on display now at @creativegroundsdc . Image one “Kimanie, Rest is Self Love” 2025 Inkjet print on Canson Photographique II Thanks to @kimaaanie for your time and inviting me into your space. Commitment is one of the “Attributes of Love” and all love should be applied to self as well as others. Here’s Kimanie’s reply to my prompt about commitment. “3 years ago I blew my life up and restarted, but it was the best thing that happened to me. I learned the art of commitment. Not Simply to one singularity, but commitment to self and self improvement. That sense of holding myself accountable has been the biggest game changer and I wholeheartedly attribute all my growth to it. My challenge for the remainder is to lead by example and commit to holding myself accountable, while challenging others to do the same. Connect with yourself, your inner child, and play more. Be you, be free.” #portraiture #collectphotography
