Rick Sebak's People From Everywhere: May Is AAPI Heritage Month ❤️
Since 1996 @ricksebak 's been traveling across the country to cover the stories of small businesses and the people behind them for @PBS . In honor of Asian-American & Pacific Islander Heritage month, he put together this special clip show of some of our favorite stories from over the years. It's up on our YouTube channel (YouTube.com/@WQED ) for you all to enjoy. 🫶
WQED’s Rick Sebak shares a list of just a few of his favorite places to eat around Western Pennsylvania (Okay, well, maybe a little outside Western PA too, but there’s nothing wrong with trying something new!) He loves new surprises as well as tried-and-true stalwarts, and values the immigrant influences that enrich American foodways so beautifully and deliciously. Warning: Prepare to be hungry after reading this list!

Rick Sebak at the Solange Film Festival 🎞️
The @solangefilmfestival is BACK at @rowhouse_lawrenceville ! 🙌 With over 37 films and 9 screenings, it’s going to be a weekend to remember for a multitude of reasons but we’ve got something we think you’ll be extra excited about: a very special screening of @ricksebak ’s documentary “The Strip Show” with a Q&A with Rick after the screening to celebrate its 30th anniversary! 🖤💛
On most Saturday mornings, the Strip is one of the best places on earth, full of hungry people, crunchy fruits, snappy vegetables, world-class street food, cool characters, and tasty surprises of all sorts. This 1996 documentary is a tour of the Strip, including big breakfasts, shopping along Penn Avenue and Smallman Street, warehouses, churches, and nightclubs, along with some amazing history.
It’s all happening this Thursday 5/14 at 7:00PM at Row House Cinema Lawrenceville; grab your tickets today at solangeff.com/festival!

YOU can also stop by the bar for beer & cocktails & great food or YOU can listen to (and watch?) our “stream” at twitch.tv/independentpgh from about 6 till 8 PM. What did we play for YOU last week? List in comments!

Tonight is a vinyl Wednesday at The Independent Brewing Company in Squirrel Hill, and Lance Jones and I have agreed to a new theme tonight. The theme is YOU!
All songs with YOU In the title.
YOU can listen (and look at some very boring video) at twitch.tv/independentpgh from about 6pm till 8.
Or YOU can always stop by for good food and bountiful beverages.
We haven’t had a theme for the last three weeks. Freeform! No rules! And it’s been glorious. What did we play last week? List in comments!
On Wednesday evenings, I often head for The Independent Brewing Company on Shady Ave. in Squirrel Hill because I play some of my old vinyl records there with my old pal Lance Jones from about 6 till 8pm. And yes, VINYL is one of the features they celebrate on the outside of their building. Please stop by (for BEER / FOOD / COCKTAILS / VINYL!) or listen to our selections on our stream at twitch.tv/independentpgh.
We are Freeform again tonight (no theme for our selections) which is easier and often better for the unpredictable mix. We were Freeform last week too. What did we play? List in comments:
Wednesday evening! Vinyl records at The Independent Brewing Company! Lance and I have no theme tonight, but sometimes that’s the best. You can listen (and watch?) at twitch.tv/independentpgh or stop by the bar to hear the music amid the people, the great drinks, the beer & the excellent food.
There was no theme last week either. What did we play? List in comments;
