Esteban is taking apart the three-meter-tall wheel totem he built. Fedya, the DP, is dragging the light stands. Every step, he sinks up to his knees in the mud while the tide swallows the island where we had the great idea to shoot the final scene of the project. We haul everything in the canoe for our last trip to shore.

During a trip to Ghana, I discovered a group challenging traditional gender roles and breaking the taboo around water (high drowning rates, realm of spirits). For two months, I documented their struggles, from lack of gear to cultural barriers.
