The Nsibidi Festival - Director Profile: Remi Vaughan-Richards. Her critically acclaimed film - ‘The Lost Legacy of Bida Bikini’ screens on Saturday 28 September at the Didi Museum, 175B Akin Adeshola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Remi Vaughan-Richards is a vibrant and versatile director. She studied MA Textile Design at the Royal College of Art, London where she was awarded a distinction, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Film and Television at Kingston University, London.
Her feature length documentary, ‘Faaji Agba’ won the award for best documentary at Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards, 2016. ‘Faaji Agba’ premiered in London at the British Film Institute “Beyond Nollywood” 2016. Her award winning docu-drama ‘One Small Step’ (featured in the New York African Film Festival) and ‘Scent of the Streets’, documentary on Area Girls for BBC (UK) featured at Afrikamera, Berlin. She was creator and director of ‘Laraba’s World’ Hausa TV drama series for MoFilms (UK)/Unilever international, and a director and art department consultant for TV drama series ‘Wetin Dey’, BBC World Service Trust, Nigeria. Her most recent projects include ‘The Lost Legacy of Bida Bikini’ which is now permanently on the British Museum website on endangered crafts and ‘Sin Is A Puppy That Follows You Home’ documentary, sponsored by Ford Foundation and the Open Society Foundations on the life of child-bride Balaraba Ramat Yakubu who became the first female writer in Kano among others. @nsibidiinst@remi.vr@edemekakeazor
