Shoulder rehab without surgery can look like… 💪🏼From not being able to lift her arm up past 90 degrees… To getting back to boxing, kettlebell training, and overhead presses. 🥲Mya came to us after a pretty bad fall and MRI showed some pretty serious trauma and tear to her rotator cuff (supraspinatus) and bicep tendon. ▶️We started like any other rehab… with just trying to get her range of motion back and working on simple exercises for motor control and strength. 🤔However, the reason Mya was able to get back to kettlebell snatches and overhead presses was because she didn’t stop at just “getting her range of motion and strength back” 💥We worked on training her lower body, her jumping & landing, her upper body plyometrics, her medball throws and catches, and so much more. 📈She also put in the work literally every single day outside of PT either doing her homework or continuing to work on her overall fitness and conditioning. 🤷🏻‍♂️If you are looking for rehab that will help get you back to training (and beyond*), come train with our team at @reload.pt #reloadpt #movewithoutlimits #nycphysicaltherapy #rotatorcufftear #shoulderrehab

Why you should add some medball training to your life: 🔑Essentially throwing and catching is a version of plyometrics for your upper body. ✅Throwing emphasizes force production qualities. You’re using concentric (shortening) muscle contractions. ✅Catching emphasizes force absorption qualities. You are using isometric (same length) and eccentric (lengthening) muscle contractions. 💁🏻‍♂️We often introduce catching first to teach hand eye coordination and someone’s ability to absorb forces. It’s kinda like teaching someone how to land before they begin training their jumps. 📈Additionally, Catching allows you to expose your body to higher forces than you can produce. 👉🏼An example of this would be performing depth drops off a 30 inch box for your body to eccentrically absorb when you can only produce a 20 inch jump concentrically. 🔥Added bonus: You can use medballs throws and slams for power production and absorption, or you can use medball tosses and passes for core training in the form of circuits. #reloadpt #movewithoutlimits

Ryan getting into “How to Create Alignment” for the process of building the relationship necessary for consistent investments in building functional reserve. “It’s about telling people what you’re trying to do, why you think you’re going do it, why you think it’s going to work, what they should expect to feel, when you need to report back, how we’re going to make the next decision, to debrief it, and then to do that again, and again, and again, and again, and again, forever. Because things change. Things will always change. My clients always think I’m going copy and paste. “I’m going do this Monday, Wednesday, Friday for the rest of my life.”I tell them it’s the opposite. It’s actually the rule is that everything’s going to change. You’re going to travel, you’re going get sick. You’re going have to take care of a family member. You’re going to get tired. You’re going to feel great. You’re going to meet your goals. Everything is constantly changing, and so to me, this is what we do on Day One. We establish that this is a process, and that I’m gonna figure it out. I tell people on the phone before they come in that we’re, we’re gonna figure it out. They say, “I don’t know what to do.” I say, “Well, generally, you’ve got to let it calm down, and then build it up. Then integrate it into the rest of your life. If you know how to do that, like, go for it. If you want details, if you want us to figure it out, I know how to help you with that. I don’t know when it’s going get better. I don’t know what it’s going to take. I don’t know how much you can pick up. I don’t know how much you can do on your own, but we’ll figure that out together. And, you’d be surprised how many people are actually okay with that.”
