Ray S Thomander is a Colombian American multidisciplinary artist. She lives and works in Santa Cruz, California with her husband and two children. Thomander’s work activates an exchange between childhood and adulthood in objects that straddle decorative and utilitarian, opening the door to a fantastical realm of creative exploration.
I got to know Ray this Summer at the Goldey House Artist Retreat and see her process for making art. She’s able to tap into a playfulness with endless experimentation of form and imagination.

Face Guts is pleased to announce Thrutopia, a group exhibition co-curated by Niki Ford and Jovi Schnell.
In our minds, Thrutopia serves as a third space, a transformative current vibrating between deep fantasy and utter despair. Perhaps we really do need to touch both to root and reorient in our ever-unfolding present!
Through a delirium of pinball logic, this collection of works, which spans painting, sculpture, textile/garment and works on paper, plants a seed in the cracks of the here and now. Collectively, they offer a vivid and eccentric field of vision—nuanced (and sometimes confusing) investigations that exist in continuity with deep play and the renewals of adaptation.

Thank you again, @thegoldeyhouse , for the opportunity to make art and friendships at your residency. I truly believe that building and strengthening creative communities during this time is imperative. Thank you for putting this together, @chris_lucius . It was such a thrill and joy to make art alongside @melissa.capasso , @okloren , and @chris_lucius . We shared laughs and stories, and I learned so much from them. A life-changing week. xo

Repost @martinmachado : So excited to have the opportunity to curate another show in the project room @eleanor_harwood_gallery HOLDING PATTERN is a collection of works by folks I admire both as people and artists. I see a thread of controlled radicality running among them, a rhythm and vitality that brings me comfort in trying times. Thanks to each of them for participating, can’t wait to see their work together!
Opens Sat May 3 from 5-7pm @minnesotastreetproject
