After 10 Days, Balance is Restored.
A time-based kinetic sculpture made with pairs of living sunflowers.
The structure is first balanced, but as time passes, there’s always one flower that dies faster, and therefore, loses its body weight faster.
An imbalance is induced, and polarized because of the water distribution change. With the water accumulates on the heavier side, the lighter, more decayed flower gets less resources, and dies even faster.
But after 10 days, balance is restored. Because after 10 days, both sunflowers are equally as dead and decayed.
This image includes a freshly installed pairs, a pairs installed 5 days before, and a pair installed 10 days before.
After 10 days, balance is restored.
After 10 days, they both lose the majority of their body weight. They are both so light, that competition doesn’t matter anymore.
Folks what should I name this?
Update: I named this piece "After 10 days, the balance is restored." in the end. I appreciate all the input here, as they are how you view it.
Unresolved Talk – Leftovers [2026]
After the dinner, I left a note on the table, so did Haoren.
I will never read his. He will never read mine.
Currently showing in "Perspective" at Clive Davis Gallery till 3/14.
A film created long time ago - back in 2021 when I was still a chemistry student. With only my phone camera and two beloved friends @glaciem_1527@lanoscar , we drove all the way to Laomei Green Reef, one of the northernmost locations in Taiwan. It was a sunny day, windy as well. The wave was high up and the sand scratched every parts of my exposed skin. Salts in my hair, my hair on my face, I could barely see facing the ocean. Yet it was lovely, even if I'm not sure what I just caught on camera.
Later on I went back to my dorm and edited it with IOS photo, Microsoft Word and PowerPoints. It was back in the time when I have no clue of how to use adobe creative tools, and I always found it amusing that I made this out of Microsoft Office. Story of a chemist’s life.
I never posted it because I didn't thought of it as anything. But I keep thinking about it when doing my work recently. And here it is, traveling all the way from the north shore of Taiwan, to my phone (which is later on crashed by a truck, crazy story), to my Acer, to my Dell, to my Mac, to here.
If you are watching this, I hope you enjoy a story between a barnacle and a boy.
