Our annual conference in Edinburgh brings together creatives from film, television, advertising, games, and immersive arts to celebrate the art, craft and business of making things move. This flagship industry event showcases the best work from around the world and offers a place for industry leaders, support agencies, practitioners, educators and students to gather and get inspired. With a full day of focused programming for our Emerging Talent and a full two days of industry-focused content. For 2026, MOVE Summit builds on our tried and tested three day format by introducing a fourth day of screenings on Saturday the 21st. Comprising curated collections of amazing shorts and some brilliant animated feature films, you’ll not want to miss this amazing addition to MOVE Summit. (All screenings will be accessible with a MOVE Summit pass, subject to availability and pre booking.) The winner of Best Short Film at MOVE Summit will be announced after the final keynote on Friday 20th February. Along with a prize courtesy of XPPen, the winning short will play during our Screening Day at Filmhouse on Saturday 21st February. We focus on the underseen: underground films, passion projects and voices of young filmmakers that try to make a name for themselves. Maybe you will see the debut short film of the next big director at our festival! There will be German and international filmmakers attending, so you get the chance to connect and ask your questions after the screenings at our festival. Earlier this year, Chongyan Liu @chongyan___liu received the Best Director Award for After All at the 2026 Soho London Independent Film Festival @soholondonfilmfest In February, the film’s poster was displayed on The Kensington on West Cromwell Road in London, commissioned by JCDecaux @jcdecaux_uk and designed by Zaha Hadid Design @zahahadiddesign . The screen is a 30-metre-long curved stainless-steel digital billboard. The After All poster was one of 10 winners in rotation on the screen, appearing in its own slot across the full week beginning February 4th, 2026. A massive thank you to Beomha Woo @entrwvert , whose poster has been an integral part of the film’s festival campaign from its World Premiere onwards. Beomha also redesigned the poster to fit the screen’s specifications, and we’re delighted to have collaborated on this project. The film is competing in the Competição Internacional section and is an official selection. Award-winning films almost always reach the commercial circuit and are widely shown throughout the country. Short films are automatically considered for the SOPHIA Awards of the Portuguese Academy of Cinema. AVANCA is one of the few festivals that make up the restricted list of film festivals recognised by the International Federation of Film Societies. With around 100 films on display, bringing together the largest number of WORLD PREMIERS among festivals in Portugal, Iberia and Lusophony, each year filmmakers and guests from more than 40 countries participate in person. The festival averages 15,000 to 20,000 spectators per edition. Every year, AVANCA presents the World Premiere Award to a standout film making its debut. To begin the HINDSIGHT screening, we present Buried Alive… An experimental sound performance by Yingxin Xu @bujibujibiubiubiu This is Yingxin Xu’s first experimental work in sound performance, inspired by the experiences of her mother and grandmother, as well as the film The Hours. The piece focuses on two women’s life episodes unfolding across countryside and city, and through the past, present, and future. Life seems to have been kept in a coffin: who are they really buried alive by? Following this is Ring Your Palm, Read the Charm. A piece of poetry written by Fangtong Liu @tonginam as an introduction to the exhibition of the same name, later edited together with Yifei Xu @yifei_0213 The voice heard in the piece belongs to the writer of the poem, Fangtong.
