The climate crisis needs urgent, innovative and collaborative action more than ever before.
Over the last three years, Rainmatter Foundation’s work has been around supporting positive climate action, a healthier environment, and the livelihoods associated with them. Our approach at the foundation has evolved to build deeper, collaborative, intersectional, immediate and landscape-rooted solutions to the climate problem. 🌿
We work on building lasting, meaningful partnerships in the climate ecosystem and supporting and collaborating with organisations, individuals and causes working in different areas of an entire spectrum through grants, fellowships and investments. If you are an individual or organisation who is working towards solving for the climate crisis, write to us at [email protected]. Our team will review your email and connect you if your work aligns with our current goals. 🤝🏻

PM Modi's appeal to citizens amid the global energy crisis
to switch to EVs and public transport puts electric mobility back in the spotlight.
And the timing couldn't be more relevant - Delhi just released its draft EV Policy, one of the most aggressive pushes towards EV transition any Indian city has seen.
In our latest episode of The Climate Brief, we break down what this means for you and ask:
is electrification alone the answer to Delhi's congestion, pollution and fuel shortage problem?
Or is the real game changer moving people from pvt vehicles to public transport?

As heatwaves intensify, cool roofs offer a simple and affordable way to stay cool while reducing our carbon footprint.
By reflecting up to 80% of sunlight (compared to just 30% for standard roofs), this solution can lower indoor temperatures by up to 4.3°C. The benefits are immediate:
Lower Bills: Energy demand can drop by 21% to 26%.
Cost-Effective: Solutions like reflective paint or traditional lime wash can cost as little as ₹2,000 for a standard terrace.
Low Maintenance: These coatings are easy to maintain and long-lasting.
Watch the full video from The Climate Brief to see how we can build more heat-resilient communities.

Bird-window collisions remain a significant yet under-recognised driver of avian mortality worldwide. With India situated along a critical migratory corridor used by millions of birds annually, rapid urbanisation and the changing built environment present a conservation challenge that has gone largely unaddressed.
On 12 May 2026, architects, scientists, conservationists, and industry representatives are coming together in Delhi for India’s first national symposium on Bird-Window Collisions. What will it take to make our buildings safer for the birds that share them?

Commercial LPG prices have just increased by Rs. 933.
But what if the solution to India’s LPG crisis is sitting in your ... dustbin?
Across India, disruptions in West Asia have pushed cooking gas prices higher and exposed how dependent we are on global supply chains.
But what if the answer isn’t overseas at all?
What if the waste in your kitchen could become the fuel that powers your stove?
Could trash actually become a pathway to India’s energy security?
We explore this possibility in the full video on our YouTube channel - The Climate Brief.

What if the garbage your city throws away could run its buses?
Indore, a city of 3.5 million people, is already doing it.
Every day, the city converts around 1100 metric tonnes of wet waste into biogas.
Just half of that biogas is enough to power nearly 400 city buses.
Now imagine a city like Delhi, with nearly ten times the population and ten times the waste.
The potential energy sitting inside our garbage is enormous.
So the real question is: Can we build the infrastructure needed to turn this underrated resource called "waste" into something that powers entire cities?
We uncover how Indore made this possible in the full video on our YouTube channel - The Climate Brief. #theclimatebrief #rainmatter #wastetoenergy #biogas #circularcconomy
What does it really take to understand farming?
It’s something you learn by being part of it.
At Akshayakalpa, in partnership with @rainmatterorg Foundation (by Zerodha), this 9-month fellowship is designed around that idea.
People come into this journey from different backgrounds some already connected to farming, others looking to understand it more closely.
Participants spend the first 3 months on our farms, understanding the basics and getting hands-on with everyday farm work.
After that, they step into farmers’ fields working alongside them and seeing what farming looks like in real life.
Because farming today sits at the centre of a much larger question:
How do we grow food in a way that is sustainable for the land,
economically viable for farmers, and responsible towards the climate?
Organic and mindful farming practices are a step in that direction - reducing input costs, improving soil health, and working with nature instead of against it.
But for this shift to sustain, more young people need to see farming differently. Not as a last option, but as a meaningful and viable path for the future.
This fellowship is an attempt towards that to build understanding, create exposure, and bring the next generation closer to farming.

A political decision made decades ago moved India's elections from November into peak summer. And it never went back.
Now every summer, millions of us step out into 40+ degree heat, stand in long lines, and push through it- because that's what exercising our democratic right looks like now.
So here's the question worth asking: why should a hot country like India that boasts of conducting the largest elections in the world, still have this incredibly complex event in the middle of the heatwave season?
Find out what shifted years ago- and why. Watch the full video on the YouTube channel - The Climate Brief.
