Part 2: HQ Build
4 years ago In April-May
I was going through a breakup, loosing motivation, progress slowed. Work was still busy, so driving to Laguna after working all day in Silverado wasn’t exactly easy. I just wanted to drown my sorrows in beer and feel sorry for myself… but after getting stood up by my date on the way to a Sister Nancy show in LA, I flipped a bitch and shot straight down the freeways to the canyon, and got back to work! That’s when I started getting closer to finishing Rad Van HQ.
The redwood siding was all salvaged from Facebook and craigslist, and friends in the construction business. I picked it up in the van, took it home, set up a janky table saw, and ripped it all in 1/2 to expose the beauty hiding within. It was a long process, and I’m no master carpenter, so it was what it was. You should see the weathered side of the wood! It looks like hell.
Back on the classifieds, finding other assorted furniture and materials, piecing together the joint from scraps mostly. That’s how I had been taught. Waste not: want not. People need to make that a mantra. Heartbreak in the past, Rad Van Bikes in the present, a workshop in Laguna in the near future!
To be continued…

Found this bike abandoned on the way home one night. Picked it up and was a little underwhelmed by its condition. Everything was a disaster… but for a 40 year old Bodyglove mountain bike, I accepted it for its charm. With a little TLC, including completely rebuilding the wheels, stripping the frame, cleaning and re-greasing the headset, hubs, and doing some updates, we now have a pretty cool little surf bike! Thanks for sharing in the stoke!

In 2012 we went out and documented what would eventually become Saddle Crest Estates, a gated suburban housing tract at the headwaters of Aliso Creek, near Modjeska. Growing up it was always a beautiful spot with rolling ridges which was grazed by cows and horses. It was a wonderful place along Santiago Canyon Road as you passed by on the way to the Luge. RIP

If you happen to care about bike maintenance, chain lube quality is underrated. We offer the best lubricant on the market for dry and dusty trails like we have here in Laguna Beach and SoCal in general. Don’t be fooled by the big branding of other maintenance bike care lines because the results are in and what you want is what we are showing you right now! #getitinthevan
