LOOKS is LIVE šŸ‘ļøā€šŸ—Øļø The 2026 LOOKS project is taking over 32 digital billboard screens over Manchester @spinningfields and @stjohnsmcr estates for a public display, to celebrate the body of student work and highlight collaborative practices across the student experiences. See the showreel of the work between Monday 20th April and Sunday 3rd May in the area. LOOKS is an annual collaborative interdisciplinary project at @mcrfashioninstitute , @manmetuni , designed to provide second year students with hands-on experience in industry-based collaborative practices. Selected garments from @fashion.mfi and @fdt.mfi students were captured by @fad.mfi students through styling, casting, art direction and image making, producing a series of lookbook images. These outcomes have been showcased through public exhibitions, screenings and publications, celebrating the talents and efforts of the participants over the year. Our community of practice is extended to include students from @mcrschart @msoagraphicdesign course to ā€˜remix’ images as an extension of the project. All images produced, shot and designed by students. Identity + animation by @ra_bear LOOKS project is part of a larger educational research project by @anzeermenc , @beckydelacy , @shellioty , @soniagenders + @ra_bear

Looking forward to doing a new talk for @international_magazine_centre Power Of Print event later this month FUTURE PROOF is a dive into nearly a decade 😱 of embedding independent publishing into my teaching @mcrschart including the ongoing @storehouse_editions platform. The talk will highlight some brilliant student work that has stemmed from the project and broken beyond the walls of coursework, grades, institutions etc onto shelves while also discussing the role education has in sustaining and supporting the next gen of independent voices and visions into the future. Ended ā€˜25 with a collaborative day workshop and publication ā€˜Common Scents’ with a group of 3rd year @msoagraphicdesign students @mcrschart The premise of the workshop was to essentially visualise the elusive sense of scent through a lens based visual language and suggestive imagery. Students were tasked with developing a visual for the following scent strands; Natural, Synthetic and Pungent Trying to photograph a smell is a bit like trying to bottle a ghost - you know it’s there, it affects you immediately, but the moment you try to pin it down, it slips into abstraction. Yet this challenge is exactly what makes the visualisation of scent such a strangely beautiful pursuit in photography and art direction. It’s a dance between sensory worlds: translating something invisible, ephemeral or emotional into something the eye can grasp.
