A cello solo from the end of محبوب قلبك — a traditional song from Sweida, my hometown. I played it tonight with @wasimarslan and @basgaakeer at the @concertgebouw basement in Amsterdam. The world feels heavy. So much is going on — but music helps us carry it, even if just for a moment. We’re still here. We raise our voices every day. Stand for justice. On March 27 @qusainaim and me will play a few songs in @theaterderegentes before the showing of ‘Mr. L’, a movie about an Asian tourist who accidentally ends up at the asylum seeker centre ‘Galaxy’. ...aan het nagenieten van de laatste repetitie. Na anderhalf jaar voorbereiding gaat het dan eindelijk gebeuren. De hommage aan de legendarische Egyptische zangeres Umm Kulthum (4 mei 1904 – Caïro, 3 februari 1975) die vandaag exact 50 jaar geleden deze tijdelijkheid verliet... En wat een levenszegen dat ik deze bijzondere ode in Het Concertgebouw mocht samenstellen. Soms klopt en rijmt het allemaal. 🌹 Een vrouw die nog steeds miljoenen mensen ter wereld inspireert. Ondergetekende niet uitgezonderd. En vooral onze briljante Rahma El Mouden, ondernemer en vooral een burgermoeder van onze stad. Die samen met Abdelkader Benali haar levensverhaal en bijzondere liefde voor Umm Kulthum met ons deelt tijdens deze hommage. Dat zal ongetwijfeld generaties resoneren. Net als het begeesterde en verfijnde spel van vocalisten ناي البرغوثي Nai Barghouti en Ghalia Benali onder begeleiding van Amsterdam Sinfonietta met gastmusici Modar Salama Nizar Rohana Khalil Khoury Fadi Farkouh en Qusai Naim. Wat zijn er toch fantastische muzikanten in onze stad. Vanavond is het zover... De hartgolven in de Grote Zaal van Het Concertgebouw Amsterdam gaan in meditatie... Dank ook aan mijn Concertgebouw collega's Marian, Miranda, Nieneke en Jacob.
