Working with @pleat made my brain go brrrrrr I’ve started working on some visual outcomes for my latest hyperfixation- making origami fabric structures that mimic human body behaviours🌟✨- what if you could give a biodegradable material the memory to shape to the human body? It would be an alternative to elastane and polyesters. But before I get too ambitious- pleating is an important skill I must learn - reeling it in, the question is, how can origami pleating teach a surface area to expand and contract? Nature does it all the time. When the vision is bigger than ego, everything shifts 🧿 This garment exists for a post-intelligence society - a world where blue-collar work is no longer invisible, but augmented, and empowered. A uniform for a future worker, equipped with a built-in AI assistant to support decision making, safety, efficiency, and autonomy (I hope). Our Tutor said we have high standards, but we didn’t need to create a functional piece. My masters is 11 months- unlimited access to technology, technicians, the material library, and more. It will fly by and the energy you put in is what you’re gonna get out 🔋 I normally dislike group projects but we curated our team, balancing our skill sets to maximise the potential outcome. The feminine part of my soul needs room to exist beyond the body. It grows through conversation, movement, and how I decorate myself and my life. I can’t change the world or undo the toxic social and cultural attitudes placed on both men and women - not overnight 😘 What did help me find my path was sharing knowledge with trans people of all ages. This journey has been deeply challenging, but my gender authenticity is only one part of who I am. I love exploring new places and travelling. I dress in ways that are both pretty and practical, and that’s not something I’m willing to compromise on. There are many experiences that have shaped who I am. I didn’t have to make a dramatic change or remove my beard and body hair, but I reached a crossroads. The way I was presenting didn’t match how I wanted to be treated, and the gap between those two things became too heavy. I still have so much to learn from this planet, and the pressure I felt was stopping me from enjoying life. The aim of life is to experience it fully and feel fulfilled. My body is in conversation with its past and future iterations, I want to explore what having boobs means to me now and how they can improve and hinder my feelings and experiences. The ideal man, the ideal woman, the ideal anything… all built on expectations most of us never asked for. Being true to myself was always more important than the opinions of others but I was getting sick from stress and abuse because of the divide between acceptable femininity and unacceptable femininity. Over the course of 2 years I accepted the loss of my body hair and beard. Since this change my nervous system has calmed, and my awareness moved from my safety to my consciousness. I am a feminine form beyond my material body. For all of us learning to rise in our bodies. 🌟 About three years ago, I started exploring what the feminine form really means. As a self-made man 🏳️‍⚧️ who worked hard to access gender affirming care, it wasn’t easy to see “being a woman” as part of me. But I’ve learned that fluidity is a kind of freedom and that freedom started with a more respectful, grounded relationship with my chest. Lottie was the beginning. We were sitting in the kitchen close to midnight, talking about her chest - how she relates to her body. “My chest? I don’t think about how it looks, not to say the thought hasn’t occupied my mind in the past, but now I just think - what can my body do today? What will it let me experience? That’s what makes me feel closer to who I am.” It was her first night moving in and I asked her if I could cast her chest the same night- she gracefully relinquished her torso and held her power 🖤❤️‍🔥 That conversation changed something in me. I was reminded that I could explore the parts of my body where I held trauma by studying, designing for, and connecting with different forms. The masculine and feminine are not in conflict. They’re like different instruments in the same orchestra. Sculpting the body this way became healing. Each curve, each angle, and new textures became a way to access my creative and sensual energy again. It was the missing piece. Step-by-Step unlearning habits that don’t serve me I’m just getting started. I’ve found a path but I’ve got to walk it and see where it takes me. To any trans person reading this, the pressures of your personal life and your transition need to be processed and community is core to our ability to survive when weak people are using gender identity as a conversation pawn to mask their true intentions. Expression is a powerful tool if you accept what you feel with your whole body. 💜 Slowing down wasn’t something I was capable of doing. Taking time to process my intense life experiences + ongoing day to day transphobia required a different approach to bring me closer to my body. I’m able to connect and express an intention to see it through but I know human bodies are capable of more than this. I am seeking to continue my research in fashion psychology and build on my ideas. Graduation day 👨‍🎓 The day was very cinematic through my eyes 💞 After four exciting, whirlwind years doing my BA in Fine Art, I couldn’t stop thinking about the women before me. I was thinking about how my birth mum and some of my ancestors were able to compromise with their husbands and (often informally) train in community care roles- but their main responsibility, from as young as 8 to 15, was to care for their husband and children. Moving to a bigger city to prioritise education was never an option for them. Adoption was a gift. Even if the road was bumpy, the chance to access education might have saved every feminine form after me. Learning to regulate my body isn’t just about preserving my peace- it’s about protecting my physical health. My emotional state affects my gut, breathing, hair, skin, and more so finding tools to regulate my body could help others navigate what I couldn’t. *And though I’m genderfluid (the closest word English has), so technically a part-time woman, saying “female-bodied” doesn’t do their experiences justice. A cold shower and warm meal later- I’ve still got lots of questions that need to be answered so it feels like my destination pin has changed but that’s why I’m here 💓 #ualalumni #ualgrads2025 #trans #genderfluid #firepoi
