and finally december…a softer pace, a moment to reflect on micromentum’s journey this year.
excited by everything that is quietly growing for 2026 ♡˚.

chapter ll: cultivating
returning to the @thefranciscrickinstitute in october for the 'Making in Biomed 2025 Symposium' felt special⊹˚
back to where micromentum was further developed, sharing conversations across scientific disciplines.
I always enjoy hearing how scientists read the biodesigner’s approach.
hope to keep these dialogues going. ₊ ˚ ⋆
fragment 3/3: dialogues with S. Pasteurii
a collection of rings emerging from dialogues between myself, Sporosarcina Pasteurii, and the mineral matter they precipitated.
when collaborating, not all communication is verbal.
because ours was observational.

fragment 2/3: co-creating methodologies
to perceive microbial behaviour as creative, and to adapt our tools in response, is to begin a process of discovery.
in micromentum, decoding bacterial expressions has revealed unimaginable layers of mystery and beauty shaped by microbial life.

fragment 1/3: creative behaviours
we struggle to accept that life could be creative without cognition.
microbial behaviour is rich, adaptive, and transformative. If creativity can be expressed, not only in thought but also in action, then can behaviour itself be considered a form of creativity?
the idea may feel unsettling, yet if we sit with it, our view of the microcosmos may begin to change

another pov of micromentum ֒⋅˚₊ i had mixed feelings about naming each ring, as the act seemed entirely human. something born solely from my interpretation.
perhaps this is an unavoidable challenge in biodesign: when collaborating with microorganisms, communication is never verbal.
so how can we create a project that is truly a fair and respectful collaboration? one where our vision and goals as designers do not overshadow the processes carried out by microorganisms?
