QUEER ART SPLASH WHAT: A queer, ocean, art event, featuring drag performances, an art workshop and ocean play and expression.  WHEN: Saturdays, May 23 + May 30th 4pm-sunset WHERE: Hare Creek Beach, Mendocino County WHO: Presented by Queer Surf, this event centers non-binary, queer and transgender community, and is open to the public. at the precipice of my fear I meet past and present, terrified, awake, aware, l i v i n g a year of stretching past comfort, learning new ways always meant to be for me. • At the precipice where struggle meets courage, quivering and making my way anyway, with “that look in your eyes”, like what tf am I doing, like worry dissipating & joy flowing over. • taking my breath away, finding the stillness in motion it only took me all my life, a shedding of shame & fear, spirits who held me dearly over and over, lots of grief & crying & dreaming, to learn I can make a life this full 🌊✨ • got to frolic on some waves with @queersurf & @wakanwiyadrum folks 😮‍💨 it was incredible, everyone was a mega sweetie pie & it got me & all my younger selves feeling like my most strongest & bravest ❤️‍🔥 I’ll be back!!! not so secretly want me n all the friends to go together 🤯 pls

We really queered the beach….because we were the only people on the beach. Cannot really describe how not according to plan this drag show went. But we turned it out none the less. In the cold, rain, high winds, I was eternally grateful to be joined by @travesdee @yvessaintcroissant and @carbon_bard on Pismo Beach. Thank you @queersurf and Arts in California Parks @parkscalifornia for making our lil beach drag dreams come to life! SUMMER SURF SERIES An immersive queer surf lesson experience WHAT
The Summer Surf Series Cohort is a consistent, immersive surf lesson series to jump start and sustain your surfing journey.  This blended in-person and virtual format offers ample water time with hands-on instruction, while also deepening understanding of all aspects of surfing, from board types, to wave formation, surf reports to reading waves.    Cohorts of 8-12 people meet in person and virtually every other week throughout both June and July.  * Cohort A will meet every other Saturday in person, and every other Wednesday online. * Cohort B will meet in person every other Sunday, and online every other Wednesday.  * Three hours of instruction and practice every other weekend for two months * 1.5-2 hours virtual instruction on a week day every other week for two months * See the schedule at link in bio WHY
      • Learn how to surf! Grow a deep and long lasting understanding of and connection to the ocean
      • Make new friends! Join a cohort of 8 to 12 queer and trans beginner wave riders who will become your new surf buds:)
      • Connect to a vast and growing community of inclusive queer and trans ocean lovers
      • Transition to the surfer bae you’ve always known yourself to be;)  LOCATION
This is a blended in-person and virtual course.  In person sessions held at Lindamar, Pacifica or Princeton Jetty Half Moon Bay. Virtual sessions held on Google Meet. Location subject to change depending on surf conditions.   TIMING
Weekend lessons last 3 hours and are scheduled around the tide, wind and weather.  Virtual weekday lessons are every other Wednesday for 1.5-2 hours in the evening starting at 6:30pm.  ACCESSIBILITY
     • No prior ocean experience needed
     • Rideshare sheet made to coordinate carpools
     • Locations accessible by Samtrans public bus

There will be abundance- a surf showcase, art, drag, party waves, relays, music, activism, skating + ocean magic. Surfing entered my life during an era of grief. It barely felt possible to tread water. I remember floating for the first time with a board. I’d never had any lessons as no one knew sign language. Like most things, it was on me to teach myself. Floating with the currents, the ocean told me it would continue to surge, whether or not I decide to join. For a while, I surrendered, allowing the liquid to carry me. Once ready, I shook hands with the waves and pushed off. Shakily, I was able to stand when I channeled my energy the same direction. Time and time again, attempts to stand on the board taught me to collaborate with nature. Join the natural momentum, and the Earth will carry you home. 🏄🏽‍♀️⋆.ೃ࿔*:･ It’s an honor to announce a partnership with Queer Surf to build more accessible spaces for Deaf and hard of hearing individuals.
