Pyramids has released a new video for the track “Cracks,” directed by the talented Gustavo de la Torre Casal of @pasaje18 .
“Cracks” appears on Pythagoras, the genre-defying new album by Pyramids, out now on The Flenser.
From the band: From the first moment we started passing “Pythagoras” around to our critical friends for feedback, “Cracks” was a standout track mentioned as a favorite nearly every time. While the reggaeton influence still thrives in the way of rhythms, this was one of the tracks that we did not have Emy sing on, which was one of the big shifts in our sound we were introducing to listeners, so we did not include it in our original single drops. Thankfully, Gustavo reached out to communicate his enthusiasm for the record and specifically offered up ideas to build a video treatment around “Cracks” that would include the dancers from House of Brava. I was immediately ecstatic about the prospect of welcoming the culture of dance and artistry to the project and we agreed to move forward. This is the result. - R. Loren

Desde que me enteré que realizaría este proyecto ando bastante emocionado. @pyramids_tx es una banda increíble (conformada por miembros de Rx Bandits y The Sound of Animals Fighting) con quienes estuvimos conversando para dirigir el video musical de su canción #Cracks" (su álbum #Pythagoras es una JOYA, escúchenlo si pueden por favor).
El video ya está listo y andamos coordinando su estreno con @theflenser , sello de la banda. No saben lo feliz que me hace saber que pronto podrán verlo!!!

Feeling gratitude for the release of "Pythagoras" today. Been grinding on a different avenue since 2007 and feels like the journey has led our kinship here. Thanks to @theflenser team, frankly for being as brave as always in their support of outsider art. Thanks to @emysmithyt for her incredible performance on this record. Thanks to @viraloptic for the design @krocaine for the nail art, and the legend @_simonscott for mastering. After ‘A Northern Meadow’, Pyramids went into a decade-long silence, and to make matters worse, R. Loren’s fascinating record label Handmade Birds also stopped its activities around 2015. Fortunately, after a hiatus of about a decade, both are back with a bang - 2024 was already a year of kickass noise releases on the record label, and Rich is now giving us the long-awaited new Pyramids album, ‘Pythagoras’. So yeah, there was a lot to talk about with this remarkably talented dude, who naturally also brought his ten rounds, a fascinating journey through his biggest influences from his early youth to now.

“Pyramids is not a video band. We hardly have an interest in interacting with the vapid and ephemeral world of the interweb. From 2007-2015 we stayed virtually anonymous. But we all have played together in a variety of capacities for the entirety of our adult lives in other projects, and understand that in a proper release cycle you can’t post songs with a blank square. So we had fun filming a few things for the previous two singles. For Bones & Eggshells, we felt the most genuine move would be to make a true visualizer that presents us in our natural state, walking the streets of Long Beach, enjoying each other’s company, all of which was filmed the day we shot the other videos. In the end, it feels right pairing the most accurate representation of our musical concept with the most accurate representation of our real life dynamic.”

“This song plays on the edge of fate and forged reality — the inescapable reality of freedom of the will locking fingers with a world that overpowers, overrides, and overwrites our selves. The burden of freedom. The heart of moral experience. Bones and Eggshells captures most precisely the vision that we set out to achieve with Pythagoras. When I envisioned the organic relationship between the rhythmic pattern of reggaeton and the blast beat of black metal and its inherent ability to be a natural habitat for tremolo guitars and any gauzy extraneous washes of sound that might envelope the track, this is what I heard. This song also best presents the cadence of the Spanish vocals and their interplay with our existing vocal sound. Despite its strong representation of our end goal, we didn’t drop this song first, since the song gives no time at all to anticipate the amalgam of genres and can be a jarring first impression. But now that the cat is out of the bag with what we are doing on Pythagoras, I am proud to put this one on full display.” - Rich Loren Balling
