Rhododendron’s new album “Ascent Effort” is out today! “I specifically remember the day when Ezra asked me to join Rhododendron. We were standing outside the entrance of School of Rock Portland after a rehearsal, and Ezra pitched me the idea of collaborating on a project that was centered around dense, technical music. I, of course, was immediately invested in the idea, and we promptly began weekly practices as trio with Gage in March of 2019. Writing music with this band can be tedious. There’s a bottomless well of collective ideas and edits, and it can be difficult to come to conclusions when everyone cares so deeply about their vision for the music. But when I look back at our time writing the songs for this album, and to this day, I feel the same excitement and joy to create and play music with this trio as I did on that day in March of 2019. These guys are my siblings, and I love them to no end. To all the people that helped us create this sophomore LP: our team of Nathan, Jonathan, Bryan, Suz, Marika, Olivia, Ronnie and many more at The Flenser and beyond; Nicholas and Zach, Scott and Brad; Santino, Rij, Dante and all of our friends and families; our deepest gratitude.
