Tonight we celebrate the life of Ernie Dulanowsky a.k.a. @pulsewidth_ , a frequent collaborator of mine, my good friend, and a friend and mentor to many. Bringing out my accordion today. Beaming love out to our community. Obituary linked in bio along with a recent CBC radio feature I had the honour to take part in (3:25 mark) ❤️ I am also sharing some words below that I shared elsewhere when I learned of his passing: Completely heartbroken to hear of our friend Ernie Dulanowsky’s passing. He was one of the nicest people I have ever met. I am so grateful for the ways our lives intersected. He was an excellent, sophisticated, next level electronic sound composer; Sonic Youth approved. He shared and explained pedals and synth controllers when I was broke and learning to make electronic music. He invited me to play my first solo show (Natural Sympathies) in his living room when I was overcome with nerves before my first “real” solo show. We collaborated on songs and albums. When I was Program Director at CJTR he debuted his drone-focused radio show, My Electric. He built a handset telephone microphone prop for my band Dialtone. He was my absolute favourite deejay with the deepest, best and most obscure 80s no wave selections. His knowledge and archive of Saskatchewan (and beyond) electronic music history was incredible. We co-produced concerts, drone baths, walking listening parties, and radio programming together. He always had a cable or pedal to lend when something bespoke and electronic quit working on a show day. We shared beers on my stoop or in his kitchen, so deeply appreciated when I was new and lonely in Regina. Most recently he invited me to be a part of holophon’s listening station at the AGR. There is so much more from the last ten short years that I keep remembering. I am overcome. My heart goes out to Ben, his family, friends, and listeners.

✨️ In Remembrance and Celebration of Ernie Dulanowsky: our dear friend, mentor, collaborator and community member. @pulsewidth_ As Holophon, we are absolutely heartbroken by the sudden loss of Ernie. It’s difficult to process this as real, even now, a few weeks into this new reality. It’s been truly wonderful to see all the memories and stories come out across communities, and to see what a tremendously positive impact he had on those around him, both near and far. Ernie was an incredibly bright light, who generously shared his time, knowledge, enthusiasm and support to a huge range of artists and listeners. He was a talented musician, unflappable tech, and an endless music history resource, all while being level-headed, practical, sensitive and funny. Ernie joined Holophon in 2017 and has been a core member ever since. Over the many years his passion and delight for electronics, drone and ambient music manifested itself through countless workshops, soundwalks, performances and through hosting experimental shows in his home, also known as The Drone Factory.  We will be hosting an on-air remembrance & celebration show for Ernie during his regular ‘My Electric’ timeslot, Wednesday November 6th, 2024 from 7-9PM on CJTR. I was reminded by my friend Dr. Cat Williams that one of my favourite films ever, Shaun Of The Dead, is celebrating it's 20th anniversary, which is a quadruple awe-inducing slap in the face. I was always intrigued and scared by zombie movies, but since taking in that film in theatres, I have not only fallen deeply in love with the genre, but I now spend 87% of my free imagination time figuring out which houses/areas/stores/neighbourhoods in the GTHA would be best to interact with in a zombie scenario. Dear Ernie, I was trying to remember how we first met, because it feels like you've always been around. it's hard to imagine this world without you. you were supporting my music and buying my demos off bandcamp before we even met. you hosted the first show I played in Regina at your (home) Drone Factory and you've been at every other show I've played there since. you were always so generous with sharing your vast knowledge and love of electronic music and sending me things to listen to. every question I asked was always met with your infectious enthusiasm. your smile was always as big as your heart. your music is endless like the loss we feel with your absence. to my Drone Dad and Ambient Babysitter, I will miss you forever ❤️

✨️ e.dulanowsky @pulsewidth_ opens the ambient afternoon concert at the Saskatchewan Science Centre this Saturday at 1pm!! e. dulanowsky is Ernie Dulanowsky (he/him), an electronic sound composer, performer and erstwhile field recordist/phonographer using homemade and commercial non-keyboard electronics to create ambient drone and noise pieces. His work is informed by the sounds found at the intersection of office building ambiance and broken media transmissions. Some of his compositions can be found at bandcamp and soundcloud.
