Well today is a day we'll never forget.
We're struggling to put into words what winning the @the_rhs People's Choice Award means to us, but we'll give it a go...
This week, we have been blown away by admiration and support coming our way. To see people who have never heard of Pulp Friction before come and look at the garden, hear the story from our Members and decide to vote, has been incredibly touching.
Our Growing Skills Garden has always been about inclusion and bringing people together, so to win an award decided by the people, feels very special to us. We're delighted visitors have been able to see the hard work and care that has gone into the space.
A massive thank you to everyone who voted for us. You've made a small organisation from Nottingham very, very happy.
It is an honour to win something so special alongside our designers @dutchlandscapearchitects Thank you for helping us create the perfect space. And of course a big thank you to our sponsors @project.giving.back , who we simply would not be here without.

Lights... Camera... Action!
🎥 Our Members did a brilliant job hosted a film crew towards the end of this week at Pulp&Prints in Clifton! The film is being made to celebrate gardens like ours from the Chelsea Flower Show in 2024, but won't be shown for quite some time!
☕ The Pulp&Prints team were also busy sorting and tidying craft supplies from Bestwood, hosting Nethergate school - where the dream team of Eleanor & Joe helped to serve - and cooked up a delicious homemade curry to finish their busy week.
❤️🩹 Across Pulp Friction, we've been inspired by #MentalHealthWeek. We've spent some time looking at how stress can impact our bodies. Members made worry monsters and did a little more work on the zones of regulation.
🌲 We've also been out and about a lot this week! We visited Karl at Daybrook Bowls Green Open Day, attended the Disability Support Event in Basford, (where Angela made a new friend!🦜) and Debbie did some networking at the Clifton Community meeting.
👩🍳 The JHQ team did a fantastic job catering for an evening event, we've done lots of food prepping, and we enjoyed a couple more sessions with @the_urban_worm !

Last week we were delighted to join Madam Chairman Jan Goold at @nottscountycouncil Hall.

🏆Firstly, a huge congratulations to Albert for being awarded the Hannah Hogan Kindness Award this month! Very well-deserved 👏
⭐Our focus for the week has been on communication skills!
📞Throughout the week we've been discussing how facial expressions and body language can impact our communication, and looked at communicating via emails and phone calls.
🍞At Pulp and Prints, Eleanor did a fantastic job greeting customers and taking orders through her iPad! Members have been very busy making soup, bread and a delicious new tiffin recipe, and Tom did a brilliant job adding some colour to the menus Beth designed.
🧑🍳The JHQ team have been very busy as usual! Helping to prep food, prepare pack-ups for staff, keeping the canteen clean and well-stocked!
🪱We enjoyed some more sessions at @the_urban_worm - mastering our compositing skills - and began working on a crafty surprise at the training hub!
🍄Over the weekend, we had a stall at Notts County Show, where Issie got to share her wonderful crafted pieces - we were very proud!

🍿At the training hub this week we focused on machines - showing how to descale kettles, clean toasters and sort fridges. We made crisps in the air fryers and popcorn in the microwave! And practiced using the shredder.
🎡At craft club, Members made bacon cobs for attendees, and their own garden spinners.
We cooked up the community meal on Thursday as usual.
👨🍳At JHQ, we were very busy! Members supported the team by serving customers, making pack-ups for the Forest match, prepping lots of food and keeping everywhere clean and tidy!
☀️Over at Pulp & Prints, we used the sunshine to help dry our laundry, worked on our money handling skills and showed some visiting Members around the coffee bar!
📝Beth had a great week - decorating a small user friendly menu, designing handmade cards and helping to save waste by portioning food out for the freezer!
🪱At @the_urban_worm , Members made their own worm farms using recycled materials and working with the drill. We Also watered community plants using 'worm tea' and met lovely Halo the German shepherd!

☕It's been a very busy week over at our new coffee bar: Pulp&Prints! With visits from @socialsouls2023 , Clifton Friendship Group & @nottsmencap , money training and lots of repurposing - the team have had a really fun, varied week!
👩🏻🍳At JHQ, Members helped prepare food for service, cleaned and tidied the dining area and helped wash and put away dishes - practicing important hospitality skills!
🌍Over at the Training Hub we've been studying Earth Week, looking at carbon footprints and how we should care for our world.
🌹We also celebrated St George's Day by learning about the patron saint of England, and then sharing our ideas for our own nation - what our national flower, dish, animal and dress would be! We were even treated to a Kenyan song and dance by Samuel's mother and sister!
🍰We baked a gluten free cake on Monday, made paper flowers at our craft group on Tuesday and went along to a Community Network Event on Thursday! We also dropped off some of our rescued plants to our friends at The Helen Lowenstein Memorial Trust, to be used in their plant sale in Sherwood.
🪱We had 2 course sessions with @the_urban_worm this week which went really well! Members collected worms, fed plants and made worm tea! We were certainly blessed with the weather ☀️
🌱And over the weekend, we met with the Dig-in Committee to discuss our Spring Into Summer event taking place on 13th of June... details to come soon!

🏡 This week we focused developing independence skills and how to clean our homes!
🧽 We practiced changing beds, cleaned toilets and washed windows.
🧵 On Wednesday a few of us went to Nottinghamshire County Hall to the Spring Craft Fair where we had a stall.
We sold lots of lovely homemade pieces, like delicious fudge, lemon curd, bookmarks and more😋
We managed to raise over £145, and build on our customer service skills!
✨ We got a special mention from the Chairperson of the County Council, Jan Goold, as we are her charity of the year.
🧶 We made some decorations as part of Crafts in the Community.
🥪 At JHQ Members helped prepare over 200 packs up for police staff working at the Forest match - they looked fab!

Thanks to funding from The Gemini Trust, we've been able to update our uniform!
Everyone at Pulp Friction - our Members, staff and volunteers - wear the same uniform to show that we're "uniform, but individual", reinforcing that everyone is valued equally and has the opportunity to achieve their aspirations💚

We've had lots of lovely events this week!
🏆 But first - a well done to Mia R who was awarded the Hannah Hogan Kindness Award this month!
🍾 On Thursday, we were very honoured to attend the Declaration and Installation of the new High Sheriff of Nottingham, Merlita Bryan-Hilton MBE. Jill and Michelle attended on behalf of Pulp Friction, accepting 2 awards for Services to the Community as part of the leaving ceremony for Ed Attenborough!
We were truly delighted to be invited and receive our awards!
🎶 On Saturday, our Atmosphere Choir joined The Saturday Singers at their fundraising event, raising money for Pulp Friction. We had such a fun time, it was great to be involved!
🚶 Our Nordic Walking group also met up at Highfields yesterday for a fresh stroll around the park.
💚 On Tuesday we were joined by our RockCorps volunteers who did a fantastic job helping to organise some of our spaces in return for a Tinie Tempah gig ticket!
And we've been busy as always at our different sites, and with a stall at County Hall next week, we've been focusing on production!
🧑🍳 Members have been making delicious fudge, practicing our lemon curd recipe, getting crafty making bottle art, restocking and helping out at JHQ and rescuing donated plants from going to waste!
🌳 We also enjoyed our final workshop with Helene from Canopy, where we learnt all about silver birches, and created a joint piece of art work!
