DJ and producer Philo is always on the move. Originally from Cologne with French family roots, Philomène Robinne, now based in Vienna, has long maintained strong ties to many of the UK’s music scenes. Nowadays, Philo serves dancefloors in Europe and beyond with campy house, raw breaks and groovy old-school techno, but initially she made her name as a vinyl-only jungle DJ.
Wherever her sets take her, it’s audible that she has seen and heard some things.
Her 4/4 explorations are often carried by ravey stabs. In her uplifting house sets, diva vocal chops are subverted by breakbeats and richly layered percussion. And if she plays techno, you know it’s going to bring that 90s warehouse nostalgia. Like any good traveller, Philo explores a lot of territory, and her sets tie together souvenirs from places into a coherent whole.
