Last night @gallery_fumi to see the latest solo show of @emma_witter The Moon’s Daughter is a Pearl, “A grain of sand turned to a jewel, made glossy by moonlight on a mattress of flesh. On clear nights she glitters on the sea’s black mirror, mother meeting daughter in reflections and refractions. A relationship spun out like a cobweb turned to stars in the first autumn frost. Pearl and moon-mother light the way for trawlers, raking the seabed where her sisters lie sleeping. Each pearl a smooth imitation of her mother’s care-marked face. Pulled from snags of barnacled coral, a tooth to be exchanged for coins and digital derivatives, hoisted high on crowns, and pinned to cheap earrings on plastic backings. Pearl becomes prize. Mother sings to her sleeping daughters, tales of arduous travels and sinuous serpents and sea anemones collected in tanks, laid out like brooches in a rich woman’s jewellery box. She tells of obsessions and collections, of greed and veneration, of taking without giving. Pearl children listen eagerly, hard moony shells longing for tenderness. Moon sighs as she sings, melodious stories of inharmonious love slipping from her hard cracked mouth, her lips parting like the double shell of an oyster.- Mother-of-pearl, inlaid on a spoon, touching a wet red tongue. The moon in your mouth, resting on a fleshy bed,” Anna Souter

“A tie, a tie pin, a chain, a pocket square, a pinky signet ring, a button closed or a button opened. Sacred practice before transcendence can take place. Every stitch, adjusted knot, peek of cufflink metal, button or pocket square, the transformative power of a Powell suit worn immaculately. The well-suited gentleman in front of you may be an actor, artist or villain, you just never know - because you may not be in the know. “ Article by Dr. NO 2025 marks forty years of bespoke tailor Mark Powell setting up in the heart of London’s Soho. If you see Ram Shergill’s portrait of Mark Powell fly-posted all over Soho in suitably renegade fashion, it is because their collaboration, one of the United Kingdom’s most unique tailors and visionary photographers have come together for this special milestone. Soho is celebrating this in its inimitable style, loud and proud. @protagmag Photography and Creative Direction @ramshergill Grooming @jcmua Suits by @markpowellbespoke Writing by @drnostyle Post production @dphproduction @markpowellbespoke @mrt_12358

“Usually, ballet is a silent art save for the music it’s fuelled by. In this production every whoosh of fabric gliding by a nearby audience member as they make an entrance, or the little audible pointe-taps of the eight-rather-than-four cygnets added to the quality of the piece rather than detracting. A few accidental heel-clicks within the Czardas in Act III rather than the usual silenced ‘mime’ demonstrated that at least in some of the earthlier scenes there are possibilities to incorporate more traditional character dance aspects in this more experiential classical piece.” Dr. NO for The Protagonist Magazine review on Derek Deane’s Swan-Lake-in-the-round Read the new review! Discover ““NAOMI: In Fashion” at the V&A 👠 Read our review: From “A” as in Aso-òkè Coat to “W” as in “Walk like Naomi” by @birgittahuse ““It does not matter that you fall down but it matters how you deal with it” is a popular wisdom which perfectly applies to how Naomi Campbell’s model career was propelled by a famous mishap in 1993. Walking in high blue platform “super elevated gillie” shoes in Vivienne Westwood’s ready-to-wear autumn/winter show in Paris, Campbell created fashion history when she fell smilingly.“ - Dr Birgitta Huse Supported by @boss - on show from 22.06.2024 to 06.04.2024 #v&a @vamuseum #exhibition #fashion #fashionhistory #design #londongalleries #whatsonlondon #review

“Koraïchi’s forms are built with straight or curved lines, sometimes blocked together, Arabic writing, sometimes mirrored. Letters, signs and symbols which are combined in a unique way on each canvas are used by the artist as “associative proto-language”.” - Dr Birgitta Huse Read our latest review of @koraichi_koraichi @octobergallerylondon by @birgittahuse Link in bio or visit theprotagonistmagazine.com #londongallery #octobergallery #londonart #rachidkoraichi #koraichi #blue #art #pattern #geometry #writing #exhibitions

“If you are interested in fashion history, textiles and Victorian women’s lives you need to visit Out Shopping: The Dresses of Marion and Maud Sambourne (1880 – 1910). If you are a fan of Victorian Punch Magazine and Edward Linley Sambourne you will also be able to get a first-hand impression of how the caricaturist’s wife and daughter acquired their dresses, dressed up and moved in Victorian society.” Read our latest review by Social and Cultural Anthropologist, Dr. Birgitta Huse @birgittahuse in The Protagonist (link in bio ⬆️) Out Shopping: The Dresses of Marion and Maud Sambourne (1880 – 1910) is on show @leightonsambournemuseums until 20th October 2024. #whatsonlondon #londongalleries #sambourne #leightonandsambourne #southkensington #kensingtonmuseums #fashion #victorianlondon #londonreview

“A monography is a “detailed written study of a single specialised subject or an aspect of it”. Several of the most interesting text(-ile) creations at this years’ fair are dedicated towards studying some deeper layers of meaning behind what is visible at first sight. Textiles are, again, a clearly visible and important part of Collect fair for contemporary craft and design – the twentieth of its kind, at Somerset House.” - Birgitta Huse Read our review by @birgittahuse and see the show on its last day tomorrow!
