Happy World Soil Day! “Healthy Soils for Healthy Cities.” Here are some orgs working towards healing the soil:
1. Moving Mountains, a city-scale initiative by
@MetabolicStudio , diverting clean soil away from our waste streams, and into powerful remediation practices.
2. Join Metabolic Studio for soil testing and hands-on workshops promoting ecological repair through community-scale remediation practices!
3.
@LACompost offers Angelenos opportunities to divert their food waste from landfill, improve their soil health and engage with community composting at green spaces throughout LA County.
4. At Community Compost Day LA, LA Compost and partners share valuable resources such as compost, trees, native plants, seeds, and mulch, while promoting environmental education, soil stewardship, and deeper community connection.
5. The DENA Soil Project, a collaboration of
@ourcommunitycompound ,
@firepoppyproject ,
@evolvealtadena , and
@soilwise.earth , trained NDLON/Pasadena Community Job Center day laborers in Altadena on post-fire soil bioremediation, equipping them to interpret soil tests and create remediation plans.
6. SoilWise guided a community bioremediation workday at the
@altadenacommunitygarden last May; our recent post-treatment soil testing shows major reductions in soil lead, as well as promising reductions in PFAS.
7. At
@Test_Plot , we plant a diverse range of native species to support life above and below ground. The feedback loop between leaf litter, soil biodiversity, and plant communities is key to supporting a healthy, resilient urban ecology.

9. Since 2022,
@ProsperingBackyards has collaboratively worked to heal urban soils, offering free soil testing and organizing a community science research project to reduce lead exposure in South East LA.
