Before digital art was a conversation, Jasper Johns was already asking the hardest questions - with ink and a printing press. Known for his iconic flags, targets, and numbers, Johns didn't just make prints - he used printmaking to interrogate what an image even is. Each layer of ink became a question: Is this a flag, or a painting of a flag? Is this a number, or just a shape that looks like one? Working across lithography, etching, screenprint, and aquatint, Johns treated the print as a philosophical object. He embraced the medium's inherent repetition - and then subverted it, introducing chance marks, textural ghosts, and deliberate imperfections that made each impression feel alive. His collaborations with @ulaestudio and @geminigel pushed the boundaries of what fine art printmaking could be. These weren't reproductions. They were original thoughts, made through process.
