Just a few months ago, our lawmakers enacted a law to strip healthcare from transgender people. They said the law was about protecting kids from making decisions they might regret. But rates of regret for transition-related healthcare are remarkably low, and the law hurts more than just kids. A provision in the law takes away healthcare access for transgender adults too. That’s why, today, we’re telling South Carolina: We’ll see you in court.

Join our virtual “Know Your Rights” Back to School Town Hall on August 6th from 6-7PM to get the facts on keeping LGBTQ+ students safe in school – led by our coalition in partnership with @aclusc @affa.sc @harriethancockcenter and @upliftoutreachcenter 📚 We’ll discuss how the trans youth healthcare ban (with a forced outing provision in schools), the book ban impacting LGBTQ+ literature, and a K-12 bathroom ban will impact students, and provide resources for students, parents, and educators to fight back if they experience discrimination at school. It will go into effect immediately, banning medically necessary for trans youth and complicating care for trans adults across South Carolina 💔🏳️‍⚧️ Our whole coalition has fought hard against this bill every step of the way – not just this year, but for the last 3 years as anti-LGBTQ+ lawmakers in SC have again and again pursued anti-trans attacks instead of policies that would make our state better for all of us. 🩺 Now, we’re mobilizing to support trans youth and help them continue to get the care they need to thrive. Our partners at @southernequality , @wearefamilycharleston , @harriethancockcenter , and @upliftoutreachcenter have resources for families of trans youth via our link in bio. 🗺️ @southernequality is also offering patient navigation and logistical support for trans adults who are at risk of losing their care because of H. 4624. We’re sad, angry, and extremely disappointed Senators passed H. 4624 and are prioritizing attacking trans care access over making SC better for all of us. To the trans youth and adults of South Carolina – know that you are not alone, and if this becomes law, know that we will do *everything* in our power to help families navigate this healthcare crisis.
