Packing for 5 days is the same as packing for over a week for me. I packed so many extra outfits because I had space.
Packing tips:
- Wear your bulkiest pieces on the plane (including shoes unless you have space in your carry-on -- I actually did!)
- Try everything on in advance and make sure the shoes, sweater... all works and you have complete outfits you feel good about.
- At least one shoes, bags, sunglasses, jacket/sweater that works with everything -- I picked cream in this case.
- Pack extra pants/dresses that are lightweight and take up virtually no space. If you're picking multiple bulky outfits, reconsider some of them.
- Check the weather. I didn't want to pack boots but I was at a music festival and heavy rain/mud was expected. This also helps you determine if you need more sweaters/layering pieces.
- Go ham on jewelry, 1-2 belts, 2-4 bags, 2-3 sunglasses, 2-4 pairs of shoes. I also packed a curing iron and flat iron, everything fit easily.
- Start with everything you want to bring and then edit it down. Look at things like if I bring these sunglasses/shoes/bag... I can wear them with 5 vs 1 outfit. The ones that serve you the most stay. It's fine if one or two things are not versatile if it's special but try not to go overboard.
- Jeans, a basic black and/or white or cream top is going to be a great staple. Layering jewelry over them can go a long way in taking them from basic to edgy or glam.
- Don't forget a bathing suit and even better if it can double as an under layer for more revealing clothing.
I fit all of this, plus my toiletries comfortably in my carry-on. No rolling or compression bags or fancy space reducing hacks were used. If I was expecting colder nights I would have swapped some outfits for more layering options but knew New Orleans would be ☀️.
Spring/summer are the best seasons to be able to pack a lot and still be able to fit everything in a carry-on!
