That's the most elaborate and sophisticated piece of furniture I've ever designed and built (so far). It is a specialized desk for mastering which accommodates 10u rack in each of 3 main cabinets plus 5u on the bottom of the right unit. All the main parts built with solid oak (excellent material from @ggjoinery_planedoak ) with veneered MDF bases. Finished with favourite @rubiomonocoat oil. Designing this desk I tried to minimize the impact of a chunky piece of furniture on the studio acoustics - that's why it is a skeletal structure built using oak planks and slats. Especially that a mastering suite is expected to be particularly true. It provides excellent ventilation for all the mounted equipment as well. I tried to make the form of the desk complete and full with no detail unattended, no matter if it is in the front or the back. The lids give full access to the inside and are seamlessly integrated with the cabinets, so they do not break the form. The overall concept existed in my head for a longer time and when @tuffmastering asked me to build a desk for his studio I knew that it was the right moment to bring it to life. That's a production desk with a keyboard drawer for @metropolisstudios newly built Suite X. Top part of the desk is made of solid oak provided by @ggjoinery_planedoak and the base cabinets are veneered MDF by @mdfdirect . All finished with @rubiomonocoatuk Oil Plus 2C "Chocolate". The keyboard - @doepfer_musikelektronik LMK2+ 88 is integral part of the desk. The drawer was quite challenging to build, as I wanted to make it as slim as possible, without visible runners and aesthetically pleasing and well integrated. There are lids on the back that allow easy access to the internals of the desk. As the desk is in the position that it could be seen from the back (there's the entrance to the booth just behind the desk) I made sure that it is eye pleasing and complete from that perspective as well. I added brass strips to the lids and the drawer to refine the look and mark all the interactive parts - a small detail that makes a big difference, in my opinion. All the cables and power are coming from under the floor straight inside the base cabinets, so no cables coiling around, that's absolutely amazing 😊 The room is really well designed acoustically, technically and aesthetically. Great effect of the work of all the people involved in the project. The studio is a floating box, with custom, tuned bass traps in the back, non parallel walls and the ceiling which is constructed in 3 sections angled differently. The studio has an absolutely quiet, efficient and invisible from the inside air condition system. There's 5.1 ATC monitoring system sitting on custom speaker stands (all of them weight almost a ton!). Finished recently custom solid oak turntable cabinet and I’m really proud of how it turned out. This piece is built entirely from thick solid oak. When it comes to high-end audio, stability is important and heavy-duty oak provides the perfect foundation. The regupol pads help to isolate the cabinet from floor vibrations. I used a mitre cut for the drawer front and the shelf which gives that connection a harmony and simplicity. Drawer operates on silent and smooth undermount Blum Movento runners. Form follows function. A minimalistic, solid oak producer desk. 2x8u rack bays, small worktop for keyboard and mouse. Adjustable shelves on the back for a screen (at the top) and a computer/laptop/drives (at the bottom). Extra 2x8u at the bottom of the desk. All the furniture changes studio acoustics. In this design I try to minimise the impact, removing big flat surfaces with semi transparent, 'slated' construction. Most of the edges and the slats are rounded reducing diffraction. Fabric panels hide the internals from the front and sides. The back is left open for better heat dissipation. Small details complete the piece. Mitre, waterfall joints. A delicate bevel on the rack bay frame. Beautiful stainless knobs. Nothing more than needed encased in timeless design. Furniture like no other. A new table top for Argosy desk. Made of solid oak to match room aesthetics. This mod was made to integrate the Avid S3 controller, dock and timebar into the Argosy desk. The front of the units were sunk into the worktop to make the transition smoother and ergonomic. The angle helps with visual perception of the unit and reduces light reflections. There are slots for the cables to run then straight inside the desk reducing clutter on the top surface. Timebar is rebated into the front panel and there's a groove in the back which makes connecting cables possible. A pair of rack cabinets for @arcmixlondon . They will go to join other cabinets that I built for the studio a few years ago. Solid American white oak throughout, slanted fronts, 16u, castors, vents on the top. As usual for my cabinetry there's a 'waterfall' joint - the main part of the cabinet is built with a single oak panel. Using mitre cuts and joints makes it possible to 'flow' the grain from one side through the top to the other side. It is harder to achieve and much more labour and skill goes into the build compared to standard butt joint, but the effects are so much more eye pleasing and the form is much more harmonious and consistent. On the top there are vents helping with air circulation inside the cabinets. Not having CNC (which would make this part of the work much easier) didn't stop me. I've made a jig with an integrated dust collection to accomplish the challenge and I'm really happy with the results. Especially that using solid wood I could round the edges of the cuts which made them really refined. Excellent quality, wide staves oak panels and boards coming from @ggjoinery_planedoak . That's a desk designed and built for a newly constructed @kinged studio. Classy and prestigious walnut in darker, earthy tones. The natural, deep and intense colour of walnut is really exceptional. Walnut furniture is not so common as the trees are scarce and it takes a lot of time for them to mature. The desk consists of 2 rack cabinets made of veneered mdf with rack strips on the top (6u), front (15u) and back (11u). The cabinets are connected with a cable channel that is structurally supporting the worktop as well. Worktop is an absolutely gorgeous solid walnut piece coming from @ggjoinery_planedoak (as usual). The main cabinets are joined using mitre joint and have solid wood lipping with a slightly angled profile adding finesse and class. I broke a monotonous furniture block with a strip of oak that goes slightly recessed under the worktop. Just a small accent, not too obvious, but refining the whole piece. There's a small shelf for attaching the screen arm at the back. Designed on SketchUp Pro @sketchup_official which is a very good tool and gives the possibility to present 3D visualisation and make changes during the designing process. The most important part often overlooked My new desk is a work of art I can say that because it’s not me who built it. :) So far, I’ve almost made everything in the music room: the diffusers, the stands, the bass traps. But I knew that the desk is a very important part of a studio. It is often overlooked, but it was very clear to me that I didn’t want to have a ready-made desk, as nothing on the market had the features and size that I wanted, not to mention the finish that I would have liked. I found @predkiworkshop on Instagram and saw the care and pride he puts into his work. The details he was demonstrating were absolutely amazing. I started following him years ago, and I knew that one day when I got to have a desk, he would be the person I wanted it to be made by. I got in touch with him last year and sent him a sketch I had in mind, but I also gave him the freedom to put his own stamp on the build. We had quite a few iterations to ensure that the features were embedded in the design and the dimensions of the table were also correct for me and the room. The available space in the music room is limited, but I wanted to maximize the workspace and also free up floor space. When the design was finalized, it came out 1,000 times better than I could have ever imagined. It was like a very stylish, expensive furniture rather than just a desk made to house equipment. These are pictures from the build, but I have been using it for a while and I must say I couldn’t be happier. A set of two hybrid rack cabinets/desks that will be complementary to the centrally placed @zaehl mixing console at @simon_haggis_sound studio. 2x6u rack top, 2x12u bottom and 2x18u at the back of each cabinet. There's a large interconnecting hole to run cables between both parts of the cabinet. Oak throughout, glued up, solid structure. In the beginning of the designing process the worktop was meant to be a single thick board, but as I don't like my life to be too easy 🙃, I modified it to be a construction of boards 'wrapped around' and joined using mitre cuts. A quite big producer desk of a really original and interesting structure designed and built for @adamcro of mixed materials and techniques. The most essential part of it and what makes it really interesting is a frame of West African iroko holding everything together. The frame breaks down into portable pieces. Next is 4x2u rack pod almost vertically facing down and a 4x4u rack pod placed on the top, working as a base for monitors - made using veneered MDF with a chamfered oak lip. The top pod has holes in the bottom to drop the cables straight down. The other part of the desk is a massive solid oak worktop. I used the highest quality panel made of very wide oak staves prepared for me by @ggjoinery_planedoak . Absolutely beautiful. The worktop grain flows and drops with waterfall joints on both sides to make a complete harmonious transition into the tray. There's a slot in the back of the worktop so the cables could go straight inside if any equipment is placed on the top. Under the worktop there's a XXL tray for all the gear on industrial grade heavy duty slides with solid oak sides. There are holes in the back of the tray for running cables straight into the back of the desk where there's a compartment for hiding them. The doors and removable panels are on the sides - to make possible access to the mentioned compartment not only from the back. It is really important if the desk will be placed against the wall. Plus a hinged lid under the worktop, on the front, so running cables and access should be even easier. All finished with @rubiomonocoatuk 'chocolate'. MDF from @mdfdirect .
