Our team’s MVP Award was presented to Grace Plunkett. What do you do when an equestrian shows up, the IHSA rules ask for six or more blue ribbons at the highest level before an automatic college placement at the top competitive level, and you and she just can’t keep looking through past records anymore after confirming way more ribbons? When a team co-captain opening comes up, you take that rider and make them a captain in their freshman year, that’s what you do! Alin and Lauren had shaped the team’s culture to what we’d always known it could be, in all the important ways you’ve already heard. Grace, working with both of them, absolutely cemented it. Not only in terms of culture, but also in terms of mounted performance preparation and professional-caliber expectations. She’s a fierce competitor who seeks perfection in everything she does. Watching and rewatching her own practice and competition videos, watching and rewatching videos of the equestrian world’s most important competitions, riding as many times as she can each week, all this and more, and all in addition to her own absolute talent in the saddle, are just part of what had her end the season as the #3 ranked Cacchione Cup eligible rider in our Region, and this in her sophomore year. And again, and so importantly, the example that she’s set has taken her team’s performance up much more than just a notch!

Our team’s Coaches Award was presented to Alin Kutan. How to sum up Alin Kutan’s individual accomplishment and contributions to the equestrian team? Coming to us in Fall 2022, Alin was our team’s very first Open rider, allowing us to have a full point-card team for the very first time. She held down that spot entirely on her own until just last year, gaining point after point after point during each season, qualifying for Regionals individually, and elevating our rankings against other colleges. Alin herself ended this past season ranked as the Region’s #7 Cacchione Cup rider. As co-captain alongside Lauran Morgan, she quickly brought with her the culture change that elevated the team and its members from a group of people who loved horses to a team that was also truly dedicated to bettering themselves and their team. Alin will leave an indelible mark on the team: She absolutely set the standard that our team now meets. Trying to sum up is one thing, but bidding farewell as she prepares to graduate? Alin, your equal parts smile and enthusiasm, and fierceness and cut-to-the-chase attitude will be sorely missed, even as we wholeheartedly wish you all the absolute best in all that’s ahead for you.

This Award “acknowledges a team that has been the most involved throughout the school year. This team has been the most active within the athletics department and the general Pratt community. They have had the most involvement in community service events, social events, and leadership, development, & wellness events.” So very proud of our whole team!
