Tonight, the U.S. Supreme Court blocked a lower court order that restricted mifepristone access while a federal lawsuit continues. Patients can continue to access medication abortion care at Planned Parenthood of Southern New England.
In response, Amanda Skinner, President and CEO of PPSNE, issued the following statement:
“While we are relieved that the Supreme Court has blocked the 5th circuit’s ruling that jeopardized access to mifepristone, today’s decision does not mark the end of this case or the ongoing attacks on abortion access. Despite chaos and confusion caused by this baseless lawsuit, let’s be really clear about two things: one, that an overwhelming body of medical research and evidence proves that using mifepristone for medication abortion is a safe, effective way to end a pregnancy, including when prescribed via direct-to-patient telehealth. And two, that Planned Parenthood of Southern New England will always remain committed to providing legal, accessible care, including medication abortion care, to patients in Connecticut and Rhode Island.”
