Just back from Hong Kong and so happy to share these photos of the staging for my concert!
八音8 Sounds is my bridge between Chinese traditional music and the contemporary classical world I live in today. Eight ancient sound categories, metal, stone, clay, leather, reborn through percussion, light, and water.
@tan_dun ’s Water Music was at the heart of the programme with Steve Reich, John Cage, and traditional Chinese music.
The circle holds deep meaning in Chinese philosophy, so I shaped the stage as an infinite loop, performers rotating through instruments as the music flows through them. Sound, image, and ancient ritual becoming one continuous journey wrapped in light.
