Power Malu
Power Malu is a pioneering artist, athlete, and activist born and raised on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, whose life has been defined by a deep commitment to justice, healing,
and community empowerment.
Trained from a young age in East River Park by his father, a
journeyman boxer under legendary trainer Cus D’Amato, Power developed a fierce sense of discipline and resilience that would shape his future across multiple fields. Rising from the vibrant underground scene of downtown Manhattan, he made his mark in entertainment through collaborations with Artists like AB Quintanilla, and Digable Planets and as a producer and performer on MTV’s The Lyricist Lounge Show. At the same time, his athletic roots inspired the creation of the NYC Bridge Runners, a collective born on the same track where his journey began. Through international exchanges with post-war communities in the Balkans and grassroots relief efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane María, Power witnessed firsthand the power of movement—physical and political—to restore dignity and unity. In recent years, he has been on the frontlines in New York City advocating for the immigrant community, welcoming asylum seekers with dignity and connecting them with legal assistance, food access, and critical support services. In Puerto Rico he has established a non profit organization El Grito Boricua where he along with his partners are in the early stages of developing a reforestation project in Southeastern part of the island in
Barrio Guayabota, Yabucoa. Power continues to use his voice, platform, and lived experience to mentor and inspire young activists in New York, Puerto Rico, and beyond—bridging the worlds of art, sports, mutual aid, and social change.
