The start of the year offers a chance to reset how we support young athletes. The language adults use in sports environments has a lasting impact. Saying these phrases more consistently reinforces confidence, support, and enjoyment beyond wins and losses. We encourage parents and caregivers to use these phrases more in 2026. It will mean more to athletes than you may realize. Screenshot this, save it, and keep it accessible throughout the year. #TakeBackSports #PositiveCoaching #YouthSports #PCA

We’re teaming up with @ESPN and @Disney to Take Back Sports — because youth sports should be all about the kids. 💪 Too many kids are dropping out of sports at an early age. This movement is about bringing back the fun, joy, and support kids need to keep playing. Adults, you have the power to change the game. Join us at or at the link in bio. #TakeBackSports #PCA #YouthSports

Flora “Flo” Jean Hyman helped change the game for women in sports. From growing up in Inglewood, California, to becoming a 3-time All-American and captain of the silver medal-winning 1984 U.S. Olympic volleyball team, Flo’s impact reached far beyond the court. While she was known for her powerful play and leadership, she was equally committed to creating more opportunities for women in sports. Flo testified before Congress in support of Title IX and became a lasting voice for gender equity when National Girls and Women in Sports Day was established in her honor in 1987. Her legacy continues to inspire athletes everywhere. #WomenInSports #SportsEquity

What you say after the game matters more than you think. A simple shift in language can change how your athlete sees mistakes, effort, and their ability to improve. This week, we’re showing how small changes in what you say can help build a growth mindset over time. Watch, reflect, and try a language change this week. More than 100 kids joined us this weekend at @bgcarizona in Phoenix for a free basketball clinic made possible by @espncitizenship , @fund_carlosslim , and @ligatelmextelcelbasket . We were honored to be joined by @phxdistrict8 and @kategallegoaz , with PCA Trainer @bob.mackinnon.31 leading the clinic and creating a positive, encouraging experience for every athlete on the court. While the athletes played, Gerardo Costes(@youth_sports_mindfulness ) led a PCA Parent Workshop en español, helping families learn how to better support young athletes both in sports and beyond. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make the day so impactful, including @katiacastorena for making the trip from LA to cover the event for @espndeportes ! #TakeBackSports #SportsDoneRightChangesLives

Yesterday, PCA joined youth sports leaders on Capitol Hill for the 2026 Congressional Youth Sports Fest hosted by @fundplayfoundation . From conversations around access and affordability to the impact coaches and sports experiences have on young athletes, the event highlighted why continued support for youth sports matters so much. We’re grateful for the opportunity to advocate for a youth sports experience that helps every kid thrive.

When coaches are trained in youth development, something shifts—for them, and for the kids they work with. That's not just our experience, it's what the data shows. Winning Beyond the Game, the @millioncoaches Implementation Study conducted by @airinforms , surveyed more than 13,800 coaches across four years. Among the findings: - 88% said training made them a better coach - 66% observed athletes experiencing more joy in their sport - 72% believed athletes were more likely to keep playing. As a proud Partner of the Million Coaches Challenge, we know these numbers represent real coaches and real kids. We hope you'll take a look at what the research found—and help us spread the word. 🔗 Link in Bio #MillionCoachesChallenge #QualityCoaching #YouthSports #PositiveYouthDevelopment

Supporting young athletes online starts with supporting their emotional well-being offline. In our webinar Helping Youth Navigate Social Media with @kevinlovefund , @commonsenseorg , and @jedfoundation , experts discussed the importance of modeling emotional self-care, recognizing when deeper support may be needed, and helping kids build healthy relationships with social media. Creating space for honest conversations and emotional support can make a lasting impact on young athletes both online and off. #YouthSports #MentalHealthMatters #PositiveCoaching #MentalHealthAwarenessMonth

Last week, we gathered to celebrate the legacy of Coach Lee Corso and the positive impact sports can have on young athletes. 💛 The inaugural Lee Corso Legacy Fund gathering honored a vision rooted in character development, sportsmanship, and the joy that comes from playing sports. Thank you to PCA National Board Member Terry Tallen for your leadership and commitment to carrying this vision forward, and thank you to Coach Corso and the Corso family, Rob Hunden of Hunden Partners, and all of the special guests and supporters who made the evening so meaningful. Together, we’re helping ensure sports remain a place where every young athlete can learn, grow, and thrive.

In our house, we believe in doing our best, honoring our commitments and that practice matters. But that doesn’t mean we run ourselves into the ground and the same applies for our kids. So when it’s obvious that our kids need a break from their activity schedule, we try to do right by them and consider those requests. Sports, at this age, are supposed to be about fun, friendships and fundamentals. If they start dreading attending, it can be a long road back. If you’re ready to help us #TakeBackSports - check out TakeBackSports.org to get involved! 😊😊#takebacksports #espn #disney

The way we support athletes matters just as much as the way we train them. Coaches and organizations have the opportunity to create environments where athletes feel seen, supported, and comfortable asking for help when they need it. Prioritizing mental health isn’t separate from performance, it’s part of helping athletes grow, compete, and sustain a healthy relationship with sports.
