We are calling on New York lawmakers to protect kids from the dangers of AI chatbots now. Today, alongside Maria Raine, parents, and mental health experts, we met with 20+ state lawmakers to advocate for stronger protections for kids online—including restrictions on unsafe AI chatbot features, safeguards against gambling-related harms, and greater accountability for social media companies when responding to valid search warrants. The powerful stories and concerns shared today in Albany made clear to lawmakers what is at stake. And they’re listening. But with less than a month left in this legislative session, we need to keep the momentum going. Add your voice and tell New York lawmakers to protect kids by using the link in our bio!

Today, Common Sense Media & our friends @redbarnetdk convened policymakers, and tech industry experts for the inaugural Youth AI Summit in Copenhagen. Attendees explored how leaders can work together to shape AI policy that protects children and families—ensuring the mistakes of the social media era are not repeated as AI becomes increasingly prevalent in everyday life. The summit also explored new polling data on how AI is impacting young people across Europe, the lessons still being learned from the social media era, and how those experiences should help shape the guardrails needed for a safer AI ecosystem. By centering young people and their well-being as new technologies emerge, leaders across industries can still innovate while building a safer future for everyone.

AI is reshaping kids’ lives, and it’s time for our safety standards to catch up. We don’t just hope cars are safe—we built crash tests to prove it. Now, we’re bringing that same kind of testing to AI. Today, we are launching the Youth AI Safety Institute, an independent research and testing organization dedicated to ensuring the AI that children use is safe and developmentally appropriate. The goal is to empower families and educators with the information they need and create a “race to the top” for the AI industry. What we’ll do: ✅ Set rigorous safety standards. ✅ Independently test whether AI products meet those standards. ✅ Publish results to provide transparency and accountability. Questions? Email us at [email protected] or learn more through the link in our bio!
