✨️ Pose & Parlay is a dynamic cultural and educational approach to preserving the multiple histories and communities of the urban art forms known as Punking, Whacking/Waacking, Vogue, and Funk Social Dances. A “pose” is a pause with poise and purpose. A “parlay” is both an opportunity to engage in dialogue, and a chance to win, and keep that same energy to continue winning, by betting on yourself, when in community with others. Together, “Pose & Parlay” recognizes that the power in building your personal repertoire-standing still in your strength- is amplified exponentially by growing your involvement and knowledge in the depth and breadth of communities.
In addition to providing an introduction to the foundational movements of these urban art forms through classes, our overarching goal is that through shared stewardship, we create and hold space to understand the historical and regional developments of these art forms. Solidifying the relationship between instruction and cultural preservation is integral to continuing the angles, poses, and purpose of these multi-linear legacies. ✨️
