This Friday—we running it back.
It’s birthday season for some of the crew, so we turning the cypher up a notch to celebrate and officially kick off our Cypher King / Queen series.
Since it’s an East Blue function, the winner doesn’t just take the cypher…you earn the title of “Cypher Warlord”—a nod to the One Piece heads. 🏴☠️
But this one hits different. Hidden judges will be watching for:
• Musicality
• Ability to move the crowd
• Cypher awareness / strategy
• Keeping the energy alive
• And most important—bringing that positive, uplifting spirit
This isn’t just about going off—it’s about building the circle.
We’ll be running Cypher Warlord every other Friday Cypher , leading up to a final showdown where all winners compete for the ultimate title… “JoyBoy.”

These were all questions I asked myself throughout my entire residency. After having a slightly tumultuous start to my year I was ready to set my worries aside to focus on getting to work. However both of these pieces really forced me to really sit and interrogate things about myself and I'm very thankful. I came into this experience as one person felt I left as another. In addition, I left with deeper relationships with the people I already knew and new friendships with those I've met through this program. I left with a stronger sense of self and sense of community ❤️

Watching someone who isn’t Khmer dance to Khmer hip hop… and actually feel it…
She didn’t grow up in our culture.
But she showed up with respect, and you can see it.
That’s why intercultural sharing matters so much right now.
It’s not about being the same.
It’s about being open enough to learn from each other.
Moments like this remind us that culture isn’t something we keep to ourselves.
It’s something we share, and when we do it right, it brings people together in a real way.
Different background. Same rhythm.
And honestly… we need more of this.

I've hopped on and off when it came to working out because I feel like I was doing it for reason that ultimately really didn't matter. Whether that be for validation, acceptance, "revenge body", etc. It was always based on what other people thought of me and how they would treat me (which to be honest was rather poorly).
This time felt different because it was about ME. How do I feel about me? What do I want to feel when I dance? How can I be kinder to myself through the process? How can I offer myself the care I was never afforded in a bigger body?
And since then I've been bitten by the dedication and I just have an excitement and genuine curiosity for how much stronger I can get and how much more capable can I become.
