Podcasting is one of the most accessible, authentic ways to share your ideas with the world. Just you, a mic, and something you want people to know about. This beginner-friendly workshop, led by Nigel Fryatt of POLYMATHIC, takes you from a spark of an idea to a fully recorded pilot intro in a single hands-on session. You'll learn how to find your story, script and plan your content, get comfortable behind the mic, and record a pilot show introduction in the podcasting studio at EMERGE. EMERGE is a creative studio and residency programme based at Bath Spa University's Sion Hill campus. More than just a workspace, it's a creative incubator nurturing talent across art, design, performance, music, and creative media, making it the perfect setting to find your voice. So why podcasting? There's something powerful about the spoken word. Through tone and delivery, listeners don't just hear what you're saying, they really feel it. Podcasting creates a connection that's hard to replicate in any other medium. And the best part? You're in full creative control. No commissioning editors. No barriers. We took the speaking slot at April’s Third Thursday at @tcnuk Newark Works. We walked the room through how the tools behind websites, apps and games are the same ones driving live visuals and immersive experiences - from Perlin noise algorithms to real-time generative graphics made using Javascript. @crispysmokedweb demo’d a participatory visualiser he’s been working on: eight people scanned a QR code, got a slider or button on their phone, and together controlled a generative motion graphic on screen. Update on our R&D partnership with @studiolostrobot at Old Printworks Arts! We’ve spent the last six months exploring accessible 3d printing workflows for craft practitioners, working with @sapphirehenriksenart to focus on digitally reproducing ceramic vessels. Today’s session was one of those end of project side quests. Moving us away from challenging ceramic forms toward practical, accessible tools for ceramicists: 3D printing custom stamps and cutters. We quickly established a reliable workflow to turn Sapphire’s 2D digital drawing into a 3D ceramics stamp, which is printing right now 😎. Out of curiosity, Founder Nigel also explored converting a generative artwork he created using code into a 3D model, nudging towards an accessible workflow for using creative coding to generate generative ceramic stamps. The form will have to be simplified before printing, but progress has been made.
