Heyyy beautiful friends, I got a new song for you today! “On the Platform” is out now and it would mean so much to me if you gave it a listen and shared with your homies ❤️ (u know where to look, tap that little circle w my face) This one is BOTH simultaneously brand spankin new and many years in the making. 5 years ago I released my very first single as Point Lobo, called “Platform,” and started making a music video for it. Well, life happened and I never finished the freakin video! Ooooff. But you know what? It was a REALLY cool video. Too bad, I guess I’ll just cut my losses right? WRONG! Soooo this year I decided to brush off the dust, finish the video and put it out there. But I wanted new music to go with it. So I took the old song and completely reworked it— new drums, synths, vocals, and completely different arrangement. Icy cold guitars are now syrupy synths, hi-fi sheen is now a lo-fi pop shine. It’s in a completely different world now, one that actually reflects where I am musically 5 years later. I introduce to you Platform 2.0, or “On the Platform.” And the impetus of all this lore, the music video itself, will be coming out a week from now so sit tight for that. BTW, none of this is AI art, the first image was made in Blender using 3D assets from my music videos that I made from scratch; the second image (from the music video) features a scale model toy train that I painted and shot in camera; the third image (album art, also from the music video) features an irl owl puppet plus hand-painted backgrounds (yes I painted the train interior and city background digitally by hand in Photoshop) [thank u @vvsohot for photo number 8!]

The new music video is now live! Watch via the link in my bio. Earlier this year I had a crazy idea… what if I could cover one of my favorite anime songs in the style of 1980s Japanese city pop?? Soon images of a re-discovered vintage vhs music videotape began to flood my mind. And after several months of extremely intense work—more intense than standing in the middle of a cgi ocean I might add—the video and single are finally here! Huge thanks to the musicians: @officialrinahoshino (whose voice you hear in this voiceover!) on vocals, @nickcampbelldestroys on bass, @hitomimusic on sax, and @yohei.is.yohei on vocals. I could never overstate how much influence James Gadson has been on my drumming. And while I’m super sad that he has moved on from this earthly realm, it is bringing me a lot of joy to revisit the videos we took during our rehearsals from him back in 2018, when he performed with @breakestra_music at a special Funky Sole event. Many are aware of his drumming, but not as many have heard his beautiful soulful voice, as heard on songs like “What Can You Bring Me” by Charles Wright & The Watts 103rd Street Rhythm Band— the band where he got his start. It was really cool hearing him tell stories from back in those days. If you’re a drummer, look closely at his sticking for those cool snare fills, and look at how relaxed he is while playing those fast 16th notes on the ride cymbal! To this day I’m still learning from you Mr. Gadson! Thank you 🙏✨🙏 #jamesgadson
