Who is Signe Johannessen
@signebestiarium
I am currently developing Rewildocene- a long-term artistic research project that explores a speculative new epoch beyond the Anthropocene.
The Rewildocene is not something I represent, but something I inhabit and stage through artistic practice- through my individual work, my duo operating in public space, and my role as head of a self-organised, art(ist)-run institution. It proposes a time where human dominance is no longer the organising principle, and where wildness, or wild inclusion, inner and outer- emerges as an active force shaping perception, responsibility, and collective life.
This work unfolds across my individual artistic practice, my collaborations in public space, and through my role as artistic lead of Art Lab Gnesta, which is currently transforming into Epoken in response to this. We are relocating into a vast former pesticide factory, placing both body and institution inside a toxic and disturbed landscape. This is not context, but method.
Across exhibitions, public art, and collective research and world-making formats, I work with wildness as a method, embodied, performative, and unpredictable. I construct situations where encounters between inner feral states and environments beyond repair can reconfigure how we sense, act, and relate beyond the human.
