What a wonderful couple of days back at Gladstone. Thank you to everyone who came to say hi or who bought something. I met so many wonderful people and it was fabulous to be back with the gang again and to meet the wider Throwdown Family! A huge thanks to everyone who helped me navigate my first market as well. @alicecrowe_ceramics for lending me her stall stands and @epsompots and @crockashwt for being wise neighbours! #potterythrowdown #gladstonepotterymuseum

And the same set in blue, which I think we’ll call Snow in the Mountains at Night. Not very catchy perhaps…I’m open to suggestions! #potterythrowdown #gladstonemakersmarket #snowymountains

The full set so far: jug, mug, lidded cup, coaster and small bowl. I think a large bowl and a plate next! All heading to to Gladstone with me next week. #potterythrowdown #gladstonemakersmarket #southdowns #yorkshirewolds #coffeecup

Getting ready for the Gladstone Makers market with a little help from @crockashwt . Markets are a totally new venture for me, and my Throwdown friends have been so incredibly helpful…even waxing bases! Can’t want to see everyone up there! #gladstonepotterymuseum #potterythrowdown

Lots of lovely potters are going to be at Gladstone Ceramic Makers Market next month. However, the two of us will only be there on the Sunday! So make sure you don’t miss us! We can’t wait to say hello. Are you coming? If so, please tell us you’ll be there on the Sunday… . . . #makersmarket #pottery #ceramics #gladstone

I really enjoyed working out the plumbing for the puzzle jug and was pleased with how the face of John Barleycorn came out. You can tell from the photos how much fun we had this week, even if we did have to say goodbye to the pottery legend @markburtonpottery by far the most experienced potter amongst us. I had this @johnnyflynnmusic song going through my head the whole time I was making! Whoop whoop @crockashwt you beauty! A well-deserved win. And my cousin Paul, who I dedicated this jug to, needs a mention for introducing me to beer!

I’ve not got much of my work to post at the moment because I’m getting ready for the Gladstone makers market in March (🧐 pleasing alliteration for an English teacher there) but here are a few favourite mugs on my favourite mug shelf, which was made for me by my lovely neighbour, Keith. I love making and collecting mugs. The possibilities of what a handful of clay can become are infinite; each mug is an expression of that infinity. Each mug speaks of human individuality and creativity, made by one person’s hands to be held in another’s. I love that. I’ve tagged the makers of most of these mugs here but some were gifts, so any ideas about who made them would be great. 👍

I loved making these bookends based on Beverley Westwood, a place where I spent a lot of time playing as a kid and where I still love to walk when I’m back up in Bev. I built an internal structure using slabs which I left open and visible and which I hope echoed the buttresses of Beverley Minster. I draped another slab around the base of the structure to create the rolling hills of the Westwood, then pinched and stuck on little bits of clay to make the woods. The colours came out a bit too vivid in the decoration, but I liked the stained glass on the Minster and the cows and buttercups were tiny but worked well too. (Not quite as elegant as the Minster, but if you know Beverley you can hopefully see what I intended!) So sad to say goodbye to @kazwoodspotter who sat behind me while I made this and made me laugh like a drain for six hours! And a huge whoop whoop to the talented and wonderful @kayleighopottery for her beautiful Wild Man! #beverleywestwood #beverley #potterythrowdown #beverleyminster

This is my third design for the lidded coffee keep cups, the blue/green one. I’ve not put any music on this post so you can hear the pleasing ‘pop’ in the video. It’s so satisfying when the lids fit this snuggly. It takes very careful precision throwing, but since @crockashwt (❤️ thanks 👍) got me into using a laser spirit level as a gauge and the Russian doll bat system, it has been much easier to get a good fit with the lid.

I’ve been working on three designs for these. The landscape ones are the first; this is the second. The lids don’t always fit quite so nicely, but this one pops! (Having said that, I just realised that when you add music you can’t hear sound on the video…so no pop. Sorry!)
