As we approach Mother’s Day, this album means even more to me now.
Photographed holding my grandmother, my mother, and my great great grandmother, I understand so much more deeply the importance of the women in my family keeping our stories alive through generations. The mothers. The eldest daughters. The women who carried memory, love, and tradition forward.
On Louisiana Love, I wrote “Dey Say Run” reminiscing about my childhood. Now my daughters are singing on that same song.
