« Sorry, did you just play tribal prehispånico? » is the first thing
@ohgodscarlett said to me when we met in September 2016 in Nancy at a party organized with a mutual friend (coucou Simon). We had just launched Plage Club, a series of events that hosted artists like
@djtetris ,
@sietecatorce ,
@laurorobles ,
@djrosapistola among others.
When I arrived in Mexico in 2011, my first memories are a pigâs snout and ear taco and my friend
@aldoso who introduced me to
@3ballmtyoficial (but also Los
@macuanos or digital cumbia, but thatâs another story). In 2014, I had the chance to attend the
@N_A_A_F_I TRIBAL conference at
@ccdmx with a DJ set by
@alanrosalesmx and, also with Aldo, we interviewed
@mexicanjihad &
@faustobahia (still on CxCâs YouTube). In 2018, I met by chance the iconic prehipĂĄnico tribal producer
@dj_javier_estrada in Monterrey when I had the honour of playing at one of
@z_u_t_z_u_t âs
@club_viral parties. Recently, we invited the tribal experimenter
@agualokeo to Paris during a joint
@misanxtropical + CxC event, and released a tribal-influenced EP by
@ohgodscarlett on
@couvrexchefs , with a remix by
@dj_javier_estrada .
So tonight, weâre coming full circle, it was time to share our common passion and pay tribute to one of the most incredible contemporary musical genres: tribal mexicano. Itâs a rather vague term that we chose to encompass all the variations of the genre: prehispĂĄnico, guarachero, costeño and Ă©tnico.
