Excited to be back in Helsinki next week for @helsinkimusicweek , where I curated this year’s Talks program “Interstitial Sound” and will introduce and moderate seven conversations, lectures, panels, and workshops, which are free and open to the public, on Thursday and Friday. More info below xx ______________________ Thursday 14.05 - HMW TALKS 2026: INTERSTITIAL SOUND HMW Talks is Helsinki Music Week’s platform for conversations, lectures, and panels on the role of sound in contemporary culture, organized as a joint project between Helsinki Music Week and @helsinki . Curated by writer and researcher Phillip Pyle, this second edition centers on the theme of “interstitial sound.” Built on the belief that music as both a medium and a culture industry is inherently contingent and in constant flux, the program looks to those working at the gaps and openings of culture today. It brings together artists navigating the visual and sonic, researchers writing from the iconoclastic edge of emerging digital cultures, and technologists building in the space between DAWs (digital audio workstations) and DSPs (digital streaming platforms). HMW Talks will take place at the historic Finnkino Maxim on Thursday, May 14. Everyone is welcome to join. Entry is free. Image-Sound-Text: Conversation between @__.ewa.__ and @phillippyle , Thursday 14.05, 14.00 @untitledinbrackets : Between Creation and Circulation Panel discussion with Dan Lilithenthal and José Chayet, moderated by @phillippyle , Thursday 14.05, 14.45 HP #1 at SUNNYSIDE: The Geography of Decay Panel discussion with @varg2tm and @sunnyside.site , moderated by @phillippyle , Thursday 14.05, 15.30 @kieranpressreynolds : Embracing Rabbit Holes and Our Shitpostmodernist Future, Thursday 14.05, 16.15 Friday 15.05 -  HMW TALKS 2026: WORKSHOPS If Thursday at Finnkino Maxim was about the big ideas, Friday at Tiivistämö is about making them happen. We’re moving from theory to practice with a day of functional workshops designed for anyone looking to actually build something in the music industry, from first-timers to established pros. Location: Tiivistämö, Suvilahti Entry: Free (Open to all)

At this year’s Berlinale, I talked with Isabelle Huppert and Ulrike Ottinger, two artists whose work I’ve long admired and whose practices I never imagined crossing over (but am so grateful they did!), about Ottinger’s new film The Blood Countess, where Huppert plays the modern-day vampiric version of the historical figure of Erzsébet Báthory, a 16th-century Hungarian noblewoman-turned-serial killer who allegedly “bathed in the blood of 650 young women to keep herself young.” Read my full interview with Huppert and Ottinger on 032c.com

Interview with @crystallmess around her new exhibition “Belief May Vary” at @amant.arts is now up on 032c.com We talked about everything from the conspiratorial nature of Memphis rap and France as the ideological substrate of neo-fascism, to the ideas behind ‘Hauntology of an OG’ (2025), her brilliant video made in collaboration with @_____neva

For e-flux Criticism, I reviewed Coco Fusco’s endlessly incisive and perturbing survey exhibition “Tomorrow, I Will Become an Island” at El Museo del Barrio.
