I have some news to share with you all. District 57 is getting a new resident - and they’ve already got the most dedicated rep in Albany looking out for them. I am overjoyed to share that my husband Charles and I will welcome District 57’s newest resident into the world this fall. Becoming a parent again sharpens everything. The fights I engage in every day: for maternal health, immigrant rights, universal childcare, great schools - aren’t abstract ideas. They are the future that my child will grow up in. Central Brooklyn deserves nothing less than our best, and I am more committed than ever to delivering it. Starting in October, I will be taking a brief parental leave to be with my family. My truly excellent staff is ready to take the reins, and I have full faith in them to maintain the work of our office. Karen, Isaiah, Mirabel, Tsveta and Saira: thank you in advance for holding down the fort!

What better way to celebrate mother's day than by supporting your local mom in office! For the last four years, Phara has fought for working families while raising her own. Little King David came along during Phara’s first term in the Assembly, and now she’s excited to be welcoming another little one later this year! Donate today and get your own "Closed Mouths don't get fed" onesie to celebrate! /donate/phara-souffrant-forrest-1

This is a big one. When I was a nurse NYSNA fought for me to have a fair salary, job security, and healthcare. Thanks to the union I was able start a family and build a good life here in Brooklyn. I am immensely proud to continue fighting alongside NYSNA to deliver for working families and those who care for us when we need it the most.

We don’t jail people for having health issues. We treat them. Mental illness is no different, but system still defaults to punishment over care. As a nurse and a legislator, I’m always proud to be the primary sponsor of @treatmentcourtexpansionact to change that. Mental health treatment courts save lives.

No student should have to figure out their pregnancy and their education alone. That’s why we’re fighting for A6606A to pass this year so the next momma can know!🤰🏾

Happy Mother’s Day! Last week, David and I joined the Find Community Connection Project for a beautiful tea celebrating volunteers & mothers in our community - including moms in transitional housing who deserve to feel seen and celebrated today. 💗💐 Today, I’m also thinking of the city I want my babies to grow in and the place that I want all mothers to be able to raise their children where neighborhoods are safe, schools are fully funded, and people can actually afford to raise a family here. I’m especially thinking of my mother. She immigrated from Haiti and built a better life here. The opportunities she had should not be a thing of the past. I am fighting every day to ensure we protect the rights of immigrant families like mine. I am incredibly thankful for all the mothers in my district who love and care, who fight for their babies, and to all who hope that their children will inherit a more just world than the one we grew up in. ❤️
