-I did not see every film so far in the 21st Century so some popular or underrated performances from films may be possibly missing from the list because I haven't seen it or possibly slipped my mind when select researching theses 200 Performances

This is a complete film, with themes, technical aspects, performances, costumes, designs that are matchless, impeccable. #PaulThomasAnderson really provided one of the best films ever, and I think #PhantomThread is one of his works that goes mostly unnoticed. Phantom Thread is a visually and thematically stunning film; it absorbs you in its characters, aesthetics, dialogues, and story. At its core, it’s a period romance drama while it explores some other deeper psychological aspects of relationships, perfection, work-life balance, and much more.
The film is set in 1950s London and follows Reynolds Woodcock (Lewis), a famous and meticulous dressmaker with a precise life to provide his clients the perfect dress; however, his uniform life is altered heavily when he meets and falls for a young woman, Alma (#VickyKrieps). Paul Thomas Anderson has struck a golden balance between drama and romance in his engaging script. The film grows and builds in as organically a manner as a film possibly can. Usually, when a film is slow-burning, it tends to become boring in the long shots, closeups, and silence, but Anderson really uses them to display and explore the complexity of the characters and romance. The film is visually bold and quite memorable. The usage of music is also how Anderson handles the thematic characters and story. These are flawed characters, yet somehow Anderson makes them just enough to be liked.
Mr. Woodcock instantly becomes iconic and totally believeable throughout the eyes of Daniel Daw-Lewis. Every non-dialogue moment, along with ones with dialogue, is monumental and beautiful. This is the last film for Daw-Lewis before he retired, making Phantom Thread quite important in the film industry.

Sharing more of my process here for anyone that’s interested. Here’s the evolution of an image from a cover story I shot with the amazing @vickykrieps for @esmagazine styled by @nickyyates with hair by @johnniesapong and makeup by @kathylesant
1. Final image
2. First polaroid, knew I had something, but needed to make some changes.
3. Inserted frame guides into the Polaroid back on my Mamiya RZ67 to get an accurate preview of what I would get on film. Reloaded with b&w Polaroid (FP-3000B). Reframed tighter for a more intimate atmosphere. Asked Vicky to look off camera.
4. Preferred the feeling of interiority and intimacy in the first polaroid, so replicated her first pose with the tighter frame.
5. Loaded the RZ with color film as I loved the tones in the dress and how the mixed color temperatures rendered her skin and dress in a painterly manner. I also reframed slightly wider to give her a little more space and to catch some reflection to add another layer and heighten the feeling of self refection. #vickykrieps
