It was such a joy playing at @thenehrucentre with @junaid.tabla yesterday. Thank you @jayvisvadeva for programming and to all who attended. Here is a snippet from my presentation of Purbi on sitar. I will share a cello clip too.

Sharing snippets from the Cello portion of my PhD recital on 12th of May, 2025. Accompanied by the fantastic and Internationally acclaimed Ustad Shahbaz Hussain on Tabla. This was the first full airing of a raga using the two finger left-hand technique and the approach to bowing compositions that I had developed. A lot to still refine, but a milestone in the process of translating my Sitar training from the great Sarodia, Ustad Irfan Muhammad Khan, to Cello.

A raga is a melodic world, which conjures a particular mood and association with a time of day or season. Especially in the UK, it is rare that audiences get a chance to hear morning ragas performed at their correct time. This is why the first event in the Bristol Baithaks concert series on the 9th May at Arnolfini, as part of Diaspora festival’s Desi day, will be so special. Start the day with tender and evocative morning ragas performed on sitar and tabla.

6 years ago I took this photo of a wheel in Rajasthan. My cousin pointed out its similarities with wheels painted by our family (see second photo). It shows the way threads from over a thousand years ago weave through into the present and re-entangle.
