The original idea for this program was painters who animate - it was a good starting point, but the more I thought about it, I realized I wanted to widen the net. Animation can be painterly, but it can be textural in other ways too. It can be self-referential, it can tell a story. It can also be funny. I tried to include a number of different possibilities in this screening, from explicitly painterly to unapologetically digital, handmade stop motion, and cartoons. I love all this work for different reasons, and I thought it would be nice to bring it all together at The Gallery. !BYOB! organized by @andycahill RSVP via LINK in BIO @shimmering_ice_puzzle @newtmilton @lillicarre @woosieparty @mrswilliamhorseley @eskew1000 @peterburr @y_i__f_a_n

ONION CITY OPENING NIGHT — USEFUL FANTASY Co-presented by 150 Media Stream and Peter Burr at the Siskel Film Center (164 N. State Street) on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 8pm @150mediastream @peterburr @filmcenter . Tickets are available at the link in bio and at . “Most fantasy is useless. That’s the point. It’s the space we reserve for what doesn’t have to justify itself. USEFUL FANTASY insists on having both of its ways, gathering films that build worlds through their psychic accumulation, letting meaning emerge so indirectly it might not emerge at all...” – Peter Burr USEFUL FANTASY is a special shorts program at the Siskel Film Center curated by artist Peter Burr and presented in partnership with 150 Media Stream. The program features a 35mm print of Suzan Pitt’s iconic ASPARAGUS (1979) restored by and courtesy of the Academy Film Archive, as well as Peter Tscherkassky’s avant-garde masterpiece OUTER SPACE (1999, 35mm). Accompanying these prints are digital presentations of Peter Burr’s ALONE WITH THE MOON (2012), Vince Collins’s MALICE IN WONDERLAND (1982), Shana Moulton’s THE MOUNTAIN WHERE EVERYTHING IS UPSIDE DOWN (2005), and Boris Labbé’s LA CHUTE (2018). Peter Burr will be in attendance to present a work-in-progress preview of his generative artwork MAINTENANCE GAME (2026). The program will be preceded by a reception and installation hosted by 150 Media Stream at 150 N. Riverside Plaza from 5:30pm–7:30pm. Come celebrate with us! VIDEOS 1. Join us for the opening reception of Onion City Experimental Film Festival at 150 Media Stream on Thursday, April 9 with an installation curated by Peter Burr! @150mediastream @peterburr Onion City opens with a digital art installation and reception in the lobby of 150 N. Riverside Plaza from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, hosted and sponsored by 150 Media Stream. Digital and new media artist Peter Burr, known for his large-scale installations in locales such as Times Square, will curate the lobby’s unique media wall. Burr’s Continuous Monument, commissioned by 150 Media Stream in 2021, will alternate with French animation artist Boris Labbé's newly adapted work Ito Meikyū. Originally a VR work, Ito Meikyū, which premiered at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival, develops around references from Japanese art history and literature (the Fukinuki Yatai, The Tale of Genji, The Pillow Book) and unfolds as a large sensory fresco. A heterogeneous set of drawn, animated, and sound scenes are taken from digital material; they recreate a kind of subjective world (inner and outer) in the form of a labyrinth composed of fractal architectures, inhabited by plants, objects, animals, men, women, motifs, and calligraphy. 150 Media Stream will also present Ito Meikyū in its original VR format, offering visitors the rare opportunity to experience this interactive 20-minute artwork through a VR headset during the following time windows: Wednesday, April 8, 11:30am - 1:30pm Thursday, April 9, 11:30am - 1:30pm; 5:30pm - 7:30pm The reception will be followed by Onion City’s opening night screening at the Gene Siskel Film Center @filmcenter — USEFUL FANTASY — a program of repertory animated works on 35mm and digital video curated by Burr. Festival passes and tickets are now available at onioncityfilmfest.org and at the link in bio. #OCFF36#OCFF#OnionCity#OnionCityExperimentalFilmFestival

What happens when AI controls the social fabric of an underground city? 📉 Created at 3LD by artist Peter Burr, this immersive simulation features a “smart architecture” governed by AI designers. It’s a complex look at class hierarchies and digital control, built during a residency that pushed the boundaries of realtime technology. Reflecting about the project, Peter notes: “3LD gave me something rare: unbridled access to space, equipment, and time to build immersive virtual worlds.” We pride ourselves on being a “Techie Paradise”, as described by New York Times, supporting artists to bring their most ambitious visions to life. #NewMediaArt #TechArt #CreativeTech #Immersive #aiart

✦ “I want worlds that feel like Tarkovsky, not Call of Duty.” -Peter Burr ‣ A new media artist specialized in animation and installation, @peterburr uses tools rooted in game creation to build his universes. The drop is now live, presented by objkt.one, and it was also shown in Berlin during @artontezos from November 6 to 9. In conversation with Raquel Gaudard for OBJKTOR for his release 𝐼𝑛𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑖𝑡𝑒 𝑅𝑒𝑓𝑖𝑙𝑙, Burr reflects on 𝐴𝑟𝑖𝑎 𝐸𝑛𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑒, recursive systems, and the delicate line between collaboration and control. ⟡ A rare look into one of digital art’s most singular worldbuilders. ⟡ #digitalcollectibles #tezos #digitalart #tezosart #digitalcreation #objktcom #nftartist
