Join us Friday, January 9, from 6–8pm for the opening of the Drawing with Machines class exhibition at Machine Arts Gallery! Drawing with Machines is an advanced studio course at Carnegie Mellon University focused on experimental drawing, generative art, computational design, and mechatronic mishegoss. Working at the edges of creative code, automation, physical materials, and gestural mark making, students developed deeply personal and idiosyncratic approaches to digital imaging. The work treats workflow itself as a creative practice, and explores algorithms and machines as nontraditional intermediaries between mind, hand, and paper. presented in collaboration with @cmuschoolofart & @cmuideate

DRAWING WITH MACHINES 🦾 This fall, students in Professor Golan Levin’s advanced studio (@drawingwithmachines ) explored how machines can become collaborators, working at the boundaries of creative code, automation, physical materials, and gestural mark-making. Their personal explorations of new approaches to digital imaging include the development of ultra-niche workflows as a mode of creative practice and the use of algorithms and machine collaborators as nontraditional intermediaries between mind, hand, and paper. Now, their innovative new work will travel to the Bantam Machine Art Gallery (@bantamtools ) for a monthlong exhibition, on view January 9-19, 2026. 🔗 Read more at art.cmu.edu

Just back from an invigorating residency at @bantamtools with a group of brilliant plotter+educators. Spent the week experimenting with the ArtFrame’s affordances for continuous control of (Z-axis) pressure, in preparation for an assignment with my @drawingwithmachines students this fall 🤖🎨

Last week, we hosted a group of college and university educators at our Peekskill studio for a focused week of curriculum development, tool testing, and co-design. From lesson plans to prototypes, we explored how generative design and pen plotting can expand creative technology in higher ed. This was more than testing tools—it was about shaping them. Educators joined our development process to help imagine what’s next for the classroom and the studio alike. 🔧 Want to get involved in future initiatives? Reach out: [email protected] 🖼️ While you’re at it, catch Drawn to Teach, now on view at the Bantam Tools Machine Arts Gallery.

Join us this Friday for the opening of Drawn to Teach, a showcase of pen plotting in education featuring work by @golanlevin , @ownyourdataset , @daniela_kroehnert , Paul Cohen, and @fil_ro . Each of these educators will be present, sharing their work and their approach to machine arts in the classroom. July 18, 6–8 PM at the Machine Arts Gallery (107 S Division St, Peekskill). This week, we’ve been hosting this small group of college and university educators at our HQ workshop for a focused residency of curriculum development, tool testing, and creative exploration. It’s been a chance to work side by side with instructors already integrating pen plotting and generative design tools into higher education, and to imagine what’s next, together.
