Strauss's Morgen has always had my favourite piano part of any art song. One day while playing it, I started singing along with the tune of East of the Sun. I was waiting for the voice and piano parts of these two songs to become incompatible, but they never really did.
With a few small edits, they fit together seamlessly – and seem to honour the poetry of Morgen too.
